Community to keep close watch on road improvement works

Kohima, October 8 (MExN): The Lhisemia Council of Kohima Village has cautioned the Public Works Department (Roads & Bridges) that it will “closely observe” the quality of work in the upcoming road improvement in order to ensure better quality of works. These will include roads under its jurisdiction, including but not limited to Billy Graham road, Bayavu circular road, Tanquist road.

The Lhisemia Council and Kruoliezou Council “during its joint social work for repairing of Billy Graham road on July 28, found that blacktopping work on this road was executed through contract in 2017 but due to the inferior quality of workmanship and non provision of proper drainage, the road got damaged in a very short period not withstanding even a single monsoon like many other roads in the State Capital,” noted the Lhisemia Council in a press release from its Chairperson, Setuo Kelio, and General Secretary, Ketouvizo Tseikha.

Therefore, “the Council shall closely monitor any up-coming developmental work under its jurisdiction to ensure maintenance of quality control by the contractors to whom such works may be allotted by any developmental agency and also by the concern departments,” it maintained.

While assuring “fullest cooperation and support in every possible way,” the Council reiterated that “If any such eventuality is found during execution, the contractors may be from our own Khel/Village or any other community but they shall be doing so at their own risk which may even extend up to the demand for immediate cancellation of their work order and they shall be held fully responsible for any untoward incidences.”

The Lhisemia Council appealed to all intending contractors, the Department officers and all denizens of Kohima to “ensure the best work quality in all the roads enlisted for improvement in the tender notice issued by the Chief Engineer PWD(R&B) to create a better and lasting road for our Capital City Kohima.”
