In light of the recent spike in the number of conjunctivitis cases in Nagaland, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Dimapur Dr Limatula Aier informed that there has been a rise in such cases in Dimapur with school-going children being affected the most, which has raised serious concern.

On Thursday, the CMO stated, “We have been receiving reports in hospitals on a lot of conjunctivitis cases in Dimapur which is a health concern.” The CMO held a meeting with the district administration, School Education Department and teachers’ association to appraise them of the matter and on how best to tackle this issue. “More information and data will be collected from all the educational institutions in the days to come,” she informed.

Dr Asongla Chang, senior specialist of District hospital Dimapur meanwhile informed that since the last week of July there were over 700 cases being reported from the hospital so far. In addition, she also mentioned the occurrence of pharyngoconjunctivitis cases among children as well. The symptoms include fever, sore-throat and cough.

Taking into account the number of cases being reported at the district hospital, she viewed that if the tally from private hospitals were also added, the total number of cases in Dimapur could be much higher.
