Chümoukedima/Dimapur, August 19 (MExN): In view of the rising cases of conjunctivitis (eye flu) in Chümoukedima and Dimapur, especially among the school going children, the Deputy Commissioners of both districts have ordered suspension of physical classes in the schools for a week.
The physical classes in the schools shall remain suspended from August 21-26 to contain the spread of infection among school going children, stated separate orders issued by DC Chümoukedima and DC Dimapur on Saturday.
The decisions have been taken after deliberation with the district officials of the Department of Health & Family Welfare and School Education as well as considering the severity of the spread of infection and the number of cases, the orders added.
Schools were further requested to explore alternate options like Online classes for the students during the suspension period.
On August 19, the Nagaland Board of School Education also issued a circular requesting head of institutions in Dimapur to look out for eye flu in their schools and in the event of considerable students being infected, physical classes may be avoided with digital mode. Students and staff should be made aware of the symptoms, treatment and prevention, it added.
Meanwhile, in view of the blanket suspension of physical classes in Dimapur, a letter reportedly written by the All Nagaland Private School’s Association (ANPSA) to DC Dimapur appealing for revoking or modifying the August 19 order was widely shared on social media.
It cited limited number of cases as well as the process of conducting mid-term exams in some schools, among others, in requesting for allowing schools to open voluntarily.
