Connectivity between Delhi & Tripura improved: Rly minister

MALIGAON, MARCH 21 (MExN): Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, informed the Lok Sabha on March 21 about the improved connectivity between Delhi and Tripura.

Vaishnaw stated that Tripura achieved broad gauge connectivity with the rest of India following the completion of the Lumding – Silchar – Badarpur – Agartala gauge conversion project in 2016. This project enhanced rail connectivity across various stations in Tripura.

Currently, Agartala, the capital of Tripura, is directly connected to Delhi by two pairs of trains. Additionally, Agartala is connected to Guwahati through seven pairs of regular trains, providing further access to trains travelling to Delhi.

The Railway Minister also provided an update on ongoing efforts to further enhance connectivity. The electrification of the Guwahati – Badarpur – Agartala route is in progress, with the Badarpur–Agartala section already fully electrified. Work on the Guwahati – Badarpur section is moving ahead rapidly, with the electrification expected to facilitate the introduction of more trains and improve services for passengers traveling to and from Tripura.

The government continues to prioritize strengthening rail infrastructure in the North Eastern region, with a focus on improving connectivity and the overall travel experience for people in Tripura and surrounding areas.
