Kohima, September 5 (MExN): A co-ordination meeting of the Department of Agriculture , Agricultural University and Research Institutes took place today at Angh House, Agri Expo, Chumoukedima.

Addressing the meeting, Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor, Agriculture, Nagaland stated that such gathering brought together all the bright minds of the Research institutes, Agriculture institutes and Govt Sector to ignite and share the knowledge and experience together.

Commenting that agriculture being the mainstay of the state wherein 70% of the population engaged in farming, and the future of the state lies in the hands of the farmers, he encouraged for collaborative efforts of the Agriculturists, Scientists, Researchers and Govt sector.

He reminded that sustainable agriculture practice, market dynamics and climate change are some of the major challenges faced by the farmers today.

In the midst of all these challenges, Research institutes, Scientists and extension workers have a greater role to play, he said. He also reminded the Research institutes, KVKs, ICAR and Govt. sector not to confine their activities with them but to share with other stakeholders and hoped that the Department, Universities and Research institutes will collaborate and complement together towards achieving the common goal for the betterment of the farming community.

Sharing an overview of the meeting, Wezope Kenye, APC, Government of Nagaland, said that the goal of this review meeting is to work together for the improvement of Agriculture sector especially in the North Eastern Region and expressed that this coming together will promote a stronger team work for the betterment of the farming community and also create more transparency between the Research institutions, Agricultural university and Agriculture Department.

He also encouraged the participants to specifically identify the knowledge gaps and to emphasize working together on resilient climate Agriculture, soil erosion and market access to improve the farming income and livelihood.
