COVID-19 caseload in Nagaland breaches 11000-mark

Dimapur, November 26 (MExN): The COVID-19 cases in Nagaland crossed the 11000-mark, with the confirmation of 69 new infections from the virus on Thursday, official updates informed.

According to the Department of Health and Family Welfare’s Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, the new cases were reported from Kohima (27), Dimapur (17), Mon (14), Tuensang (8), and Peren (3).

The state also reported 131 new recoveries—83 from Dimapur, 18 from Kohima, 14 from Tuensang, 13 from Mon and 3 from Phek.

Accordingly, the total tally of infections in the state now stands at 11,060, out of which 9,488 have recovered and 1,400 are active cases. 

The State has also registered 56 deaths, 6 ‘not COVID related’ deaths and two other deaths that are under investigation by the state death review committee. 

A look at the overall case trajectory showed that it took 185 days to reach the 11000-mark, since the official detection of the first positive case on May 25. 

While it took 57 days to cross the 1000-mark on July 20, positivity surged thereafter and it took just 14 days to cross 2000 cases on August 3 and seven days to reach the 3000-threshold on August 10.

There was a dip in cases in the month of August and reporting an average of 25 cases a day, the State took 22 days to cross the 4000-mark on September 1. 

However, in September, there was another surge and it took 11 days to reach the 5000-mark on September 12. 17 days later, the State’s tally of COVID-19 cases crossed the 6000-mark on September 29. It took 11 days to cross the 7000-mark after which it took 9 days to reach the 8000 mark.

It took another 11 days to reach the 9000-mark on October 31. On November 16, the caseload breached the 10000 threshold, after which it reached the 11000 mark on November 26.

According to the IDSP data, 41% or 4,533 cases were attributed to the armed forces/security personnel, which was closely followed by 39% or 4,242 among traced contacts. At least 16% or 1,765 cases were among Returnees/travelers while 5% or 520 cases were attributed to front line workers.
