COVId-19 patient dies of multiple ailments in Manipur

A 56-year-old man who tested positive for COVID-19 three days ago while being treated at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for his other ailments died on Wednesday.

The 56-year-old man who hailed from Khongjom area of Thoubal district died at the Covid care facility of RIMS where he was shifted after he was found infected by the virus on Sunday last (July 26).

The patient was found positive for COVID-19 during a thorough screening for COVID-19 among the health care workers and patients of the RIMS, hospital sources said. Thorough screening was conducted after 18 employees including doctors, nurses and attendants of the hospital were found infected by COVID-19.

The patient breathed his last around 2 am on Wednesday, the sources added.

The deceased man had chronic kidney disease, Rt Pyelonephritis with Urosepsis (MultiDrug Resistant Klebsiella Pneumoniae) Bi-lateral lower Respiratory Tract Infection, COVID-19, Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension.

The man was admitted at the hospital on May 22 for treatment of the above diseases and had multiple sessions of dialysis. 

Despite intensive treatments, the patient succumbed to the chronic diseases. “COVID-19 was present recently, '' the statement added.

Meanwhile, the state government has made arrangements for the disposal of the dead body. The dead body will be cremated at a public crematorium at Sanjenthong in Imphal strictly adhering to government's COVID-19 dead body management guidelines.
