‘Create wealth through entrepreneurship’

Dimapur, September 11 (MExN): The present era should not be an age of seeking government jobs for educated Naga youth. They should instead opt for self employment, said K. Temjen Jamir, the Editor of Ao Naga daily, Tir Yimyim, reasoning that it is an age of creation of wealth through entrepreneurship.

He was speaking at a Cultural Seminar organized by the Ao Students’ Union Dimapur Govt College on Saturday at Lotha Hoho ki, Dimapur, a press release received here stated.

In this era of  wealth creation, government jobs should not be the sole target of getting education for Naga students, rather one ought to utilize one’s education and skill to establish one’s own enterprise in creating wealth for the benefit of the  people, he said.

There was a time when educational institutions were established to impart education in Nagaland with a single objective to seek government jobs after acquiring educational degrees. That was the only goal for the early Naga students and consequently almost all of them became government servants. However, it is high time for the present generation of Naga youth and students to change that mindset and go beyond the target of government services. The aim of imparting education to serve the society is much more than government service. In this era, “One should be job creators rather than job seekers”, he maintained.

Stating that culture and tradition are not inherent by birth, Temjen insisted that the two are inculcated and imbibed during the course of one’s growth. “It is dynamic and progressive,” he said.

Towards this, he called upon the student community to know their ancestral lineage so that they do not forget their roots and propagate the same values to the younger generation.

Further stating that the present era is not the time to create enmity with others, Temjen called for maintaining harmony and unity with one another for peaceful coexistence. Today even large and strong nations cannot survive alone so we see more nations seeking for interdependent status rather than independence, he stated.

Earlier in the second session, Associate Professor Dr. Benjong spoke on teachers and students relationship. Amongst the seniors, Imtiwapang Aier exhorted the students. The students presented special number and participated in the talk on the value of Mother tongue during the sessions.
