The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) 2025 conducted a media interaction today in Kohima to raise awareness among eligible students from the North-Eastern states about the registration process for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025.
Prof Anindya Basu, Chair of the Local Organizing Committee, CSAB 2025, Prof Pankaj Kumar Sa, Co-Chair of the Local Organizing Committee, CSAB 2025, Prof Surajit Das, CSAB 2025 media representative, along with a representative from NIT Nagaland, addressed the media to encourage students from the North-Eastern (NE) states to register for the JEE Main 2025. They emphasized that students from the region, excluding Tripura and Assam, currently represent less than 1% of the total seats across India.
This low representation may be attributed to various factors, but the organizers noted that greater awareness and sensitization are essential to addressing the issue.
Prof K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Chair of CSAB 2025, stated that the registration window for JEE Main 2025 is now open and urged all students from Nagaland to seize this opportunity. “This exam is not just a test, but a gateway to the country's top technical institutions, offering an opportunity to shape your future in science and technology."
The CSAB 2025 team assured that they will offer guidance and support throughout each counselling round. A counselling centre will be available in the state, along with a multilingual tele-help desk for centralized assistance.
The team shared that there are 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 26 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), 3 Schools of Planning and Architecture (SPAs), 37 Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), and 1 IIEST in Shibpur. Of the approximately 24,000 seats available in NITs across India, about 2,000 seats are expected to be reserved under the State Quota for North-Eastern states in 2025. Additionally, 740 seats will be reserved for students under the North-East and Union Territories (NEUT) category.
Recognizing the unique challenges faced by students from the North-East, CSAB offers tailored counselling opportunities, including the CSAB-NEUT Round, where seats are allocated in AICTE-approved institutions across India for NE states and Union Territories with limited technical education facilities.
Furthermore, CSAB offers a Special Round for candidates who did not secure a seat through the JoSAA/CSAB counselling, providing them an additional chance to gain admission to NIT+ institutions.
The clearing percentage for the general quota is 75% for the general category, while it is 65% for reserved categories.
Prof Anindya Basu, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, CSAB 2025, highlighted that with the right approach—mastering core concepts, regular practice, effective time management, and maintaining a positive mindset—students can confidently clear the JEE Main exam. He emphasized that the Central Seat Allocation Board is dedicated to making these opportunities more accessible for students from the North-East.
Another advantage for candidates is that there is no age limit for those appearing for JEE Main 2025. Students who passed Class XII or an equivalent examination in 2023 or 2024, or are appearing in 2025, are eligible to apply, regardless of their age.
JEE Main is conducted in 13 languages, including English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
The application process involves online registration, document verification, and seat allotment, with multilingual support available. Students can choose from a variety of programs, ranging from traditional fields like Civil and Mechanical Engineering to emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Data Science.
Organizers also noted that graduates from IITs, NITs, and other top institutions often secure positions in leading industries, government agencies, and startups.
