DAKSHATA training for health workers under Dimapur district

Dimapur, September 1 (MExN): A three-day District Level Training DAKSHATA for Medical Officers and Nurses for the Second Batch under Dimapur district was held at Conference Hall, District Hospital Dimapur from August 31 to September 1.

DAKSHATA is an initiative of the Government of India aimed at strengthening the quality of care during and immediately after the childbirth through focused and customized trainings for strategic skill-building of the health care providers on high-impact essential practices, stated a press release from the CMO office, Dimapur.

Dr Longri Kichu, UNICEF Consultant highlighted the goals and objectives of the training, and conducted pre-training knowledge and pre-training Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) assessments of the trainees. He also sensitized the trainees on Safe childbirth Checklist and how to ensure quality care in the labour room and ways to empower birth companions. He emphasized on preparation for safe delivery and essential care for mother and newborn after delivery. He also demonstrated essential newborn care and newborn resuscitation.

Dr A Yanrenthung Jami, Sr Specialist (Gyn & Obs) District Hospital Dimapur highlighted the stages of labour, management of threatened preterm birth, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia, triage and monitoring vitals. He stressed on the importance to use Partograph in labour rooms to monitor the progress of labour and to identify prolonged and obstructed labour. He further discussed on complications in newborn and newborn infections. He also demonstrated Active Management of Third Stage Labour.

On the last day, sessions on postpartum haemorrhage, puerperal sepsis, infection control, labour room organization, care for small newborn, etc will be taken. Post training knowledge and post training OSCE assessments will also be carried out to certify the trainees as DAKSHATA Trained.

“The Department of Health & Family Welfare strives to continuously upgrade the skills of Health care workers to save Mothers & Newborns and improve the overall quality of services in the health care service delivery system,” the release added.
