Longleng, September 8 (MExN): The Longleng District Legal Services Authority (LDLSA), with logistical support from Paralegal Volunteer Yingli Keikung and in collaboration with the Phomla Hoichem, organised a fellowship programme-cum-awareness session under the Drugs Awareness and Wellness Navigation (DAWN) Scheme 2025 at the District Jail here on September 7.
Chairing the programme, Retainer Lawyer of LDLSA, Panglang Y. Phom, elaborated on the objectives of the initiative and apprised attendees about the DAWN Scheme.
President of Phomla Hoichem, Ainyu Phom, delivered a message on the harmful effects of drugs and intoxicants and shared strategies to control their supply and demand chain.
Secretary of LDLSA, Kumdilong Kessen (NJS), expressed appreciation for the initiative and requested further collaboration to teach skill-based activities to inmates.
A testimony was shared by a reformed addict and convict, who encouraged fellow inmates to overcome addiction and seek rehabilitation.
The programme included a special musical number presented by executive members of Phomla Hoichem and inmates. Offerings collected, along with proceeds from the sale of banana chips, were donated to the inmates’ welfare fund.
Following the fellowship, a skill-development session on making banana and potato chips was conducted to engage inmates productively and build vocational skills for rehabilitation and post-release employment. It was attended by 17 participants.
The LDLSA donated bananas and packaging materials, District Jail Longleng sponsored oil, and Phomla Hoichem provided a wok, vegetable slicer, and other kitchen essentials.
The programme was assisted by Paralegal Volunteers Yingli Keikung and Manau Phom. An offertory prayer was delivered by Deputy LADC, P. Monyei Phom.
Assistant Jailor Bankathung Patton, in his vote of thanks, noted that this was the first time an organisation had initiated chips-making training at the jail. The programme commenced with an invocation by General Secretary of Phomla Hoichem, N Manla Phom.
