DAYO questions handling of COVID-19 patients in Dimapur

Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) on August 4 raised questions regarding the handling of COVID-19 cases in the district.

Citing incidents of two patients who had recently passed away in Dimapur, DAYO said that the unfortunate deaths could have been prevented “if timely proper medical attention was provided.”

Regarding the case of the woman from Aoyimti who passed away recently, DAYO claimed that as per their findings in consultation with the deceased’s family members, “the CMO report washed off an integral aspect of the ordeal.”

In the case of a man who was reportedly recommended for COVID sample testing by the doctor from a nursing home where he was previously admitted in, DAYO claimed that the “authority in the District COVID Hospital asked him for a referral letter,” only to be denied testing after all formalities were completed.

“These two case studies from among other citizens who had succumbed to the dreaded disease without receiving any medical aid, many probing questions arises,” the statement read, while questioning “why patients are send outside COVID hospitals for testing when the patients’ needs immediate medical assistance.”

It also pointed out the need to start “random testing” in the state as “We are now at a stage where unless anyone is tested, nobody can say that they are corona free.”

Further stating that all hospitals and healthcare units be it government or private function in unison as a comprehensive and cohesive team, it pointed out the importance of “uninterrupted high speed internet facilities between hospitals” for interactive communication and to send reports via emails, so that prompt response is taken to treat patients.

The DAYO would like your immediate response and corrective measures so that the plight of the common people is addressed immediately on war footing as we continue to fight together against this pandemic, the statement read.

It meanwhile expressed concerns on the utilization of funds allocated to combat the pandemic and demanded “transparent public disclosure of how funds are being managed in Dimapur district.”
