
KOHIMA, MARCH 27 (MExN): Don Bosco Higther Secondary School, Kohima today began its annual sports meet. Nagaland Governor, Ashwani Kumar was the chief guest at the event.
The Governor expressed his appreciation to the institute for contributing immensely towards spread of education in this remote tribal State and in other parts of North East India.
He stressed on character building and personality development and expressed confidence that the school is laying adequate emphasis on both these aspects. “Games and Sports help us remain physically fit and also help us develop a pleasant personality. By participating in games, we learn to face the realities of life, its victories, its setbacks and its defeats in a more balanced manner,” he stated.
He further said that there is a need to consider making games and sports compulsory in all educational institutions, especially schools. He further spoke on the prospect of sport being a viable career option for students.
The Governor informed that the Government of India and the Government of Nagaland have been making strenuous efforts creating sports infrastructure in the State and the country. He called upon all for proper utilization of the sporting facilities provided by the state.
“Every School / State or Institution should select / shortlist a few games and sports where the local children have a natural talent. Then they can devote the available time / money to excel in that field,” the Governor added.
