The Dimapur District GBs Association announced the union’s new team of office bearers and executive members for the tenure of 2022-2027 during a general meeting held here at the Tourist Lodge on Wednesday, April 6.

Previously the association had deliberated on this issue, after the reorganisation of Dimapur district, during a consultative meeting on March 30 and afterwards, a nomination committee was formed in this regard to select its new officiating members. In order to accommodate every tribe’s GB for greater participation in the decision making process, the nomination committee also decided upon the creation of a new ‘Working President’ post in this manner.

For the new tenure, Hokuto Zhimomi was selected as the new President of DDGBA while Longer Jamir was made the Working President. The post of the Vice President was also given to three of its members namely, Joseph Mero, T Yanpenthung Lotha and Opangkokba Phom.

On behalf of the newly elected members, Hokuto Zhimomi said a few words regarding the responsibilities that all the GBs have towards the needs of the people under their jurisdiction. He mentioned that irrespective of the size and geographical area of the village they were governing, each of the GBs has an equal footing under the umbrella of DDGBA. Further, he highlighted that since Dimapur was the mirror for the whole state, it was tantamount to uphold its good image for all to see.

During the meeting, the house also brought up two important agendas for recommendation to the new members, namely for the need to institute a judiciary board, with its own chairperson/ secretary and respective members. Second was for the need to initiate a redraft of the DDGBA constitution, which is the foundation of the association’s functioning system.
