DDMA Chümoukedima reviews monsoon preparedness

CHÜMOUKEDIMA, MAY 3 (MExN): The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Chümoukedima, held its quarterly meeting on Thursday at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office to review monsoon preparedness and assess disaster response mechanisms.

Deputy Commissioner Polan John, NCS, who chaired the meeting, stressed the importance of proactive planning and departmental coordination ahead of the monsoon season. He urged all departments to understand their respective roles and responsibilities and to submit action plans if they have not already done so.

The nodal officer of DDMA, Rendemo, briefed attendees on key agenda items, which included notification of the Incident Response System (IRS), preparation of the District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP) and formation of Village and Ward Disaster Management Authorities.

Discussions also covered identification of critical installations vulnerable to Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) hazards, assessment of related disaster management plans, and the need for mock drills. Other points included the designation of colony or village grounds as safe zones for emergency evacuations, identification of vendors for essential supplies during disasters, and the establishment and staffing of a District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC).

Several departments presented their monsoon preparedness plans through PowerPoint presentations. These included the Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur; Superintending Engineer, Investigation Cell, WRD, Chümoukedima; Executive Engineers of Water Resources and PHED, Chümoukedima; Urban Development Officer; District Agriculture Officer; Chief Veterinary Officer (V&AH); and District Civil Supplies Officer, Dimapur.
