Delimitation 2021 must take place: Peren CSOs

Dimapur, June 16 (MExN): The civil societies in Peren held a meeting on June 14 at Jalukie, in which they resolved to take a strong stand in support of delimitation.

This was stated in a June 16 press release by the Zeliangrong Baudi and all its units- Zeme Council (N), Liangmai Council (N) Rongmei Council Peren, Zeliangrong Mipui Organization (N), Zeliangrong Students Union (N), GB Association Peren and Rongmei Mother Association (N) with Kuki Inpi (N) and its units- Kuki Students' Organization, Peren District and Joint Action Committee COVID -19 Peren.

“That does not mean people of Peren district is against Naga solution,” they clarified, adding that while Indo-Naga talk is in process,  the flow of justice and equal representation of people to the development process during pre-solution in the Naga Society should be allowed to take place.

Meanwhile, clarifying its stand on the reported consultation meeting of 14 Naga tribes on June 12 in Kohima, the Peren CSOs demanded the organizers of the said meeting to reveal the identity/identities of those who put their signatures, if Zeliang tribe “is counted as one against delimitation.”

The CSOs also noted that in the recent meeting of GB Federation of Nagaland, the Peren District GB Association was not consulted nor was invited. “Therefore the statement made by GB Federation, Nagaland does not and cannot be counted as approved opinion of GB Association, Peren District,” they added.

The CSOs stated that the people of the district have been long deprived of and denied of the basic rights to equality of opportunity in matter of equal representation in the state Legislative Assembly, and stressed that “delimitation exercise 2021 must take place.”

ZPO submits proposal for Jalukie A/C

The Zeliang People’s Organisation (ZPO) Nagaland termed the delimitation exercise a long felt need, and welcomed the process in the state.

On June 15, the ZPO submitted a proposal to the Chairperson, Delimitation Commission of India to delimit Peren District into 3 Assembly Constituencies (A/C).

Along with the existing 6 Tening A/C and 7 Peren A/C, the ZPO proposed the creation of Jalukie A/C.

Jalukie, the proposed A/C, is a sub-division administered by an Additional Deputy Commissioner

The ZPO letter also called for parent and offshoot inhabited communities not to be geographically delimited into different Assembly Constituencies, but to be clustered under one, “in conformity to the traditional land ownership system in Nagaland.”
