Demand for ballot paper unanimously made, says All India Congress Committee

Kohima, September 14 (MExN): The All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting on September 12 held that the demand for ballot paper was unanimously made.


NPCC President, K Therie in a press release stated that every speaker from all the Pradesh Congress Committees considered bringing back the ballot paper system, as the EVM system had outlived its purpose and was “vulnerable.”


Expressing doubt on the verdict of 2019, members also expressed that with multiple unanswerable questions, doubts on EVM manipulation was becoming stronger everyday with the people no longer trusting the EVMs, the release added.


It further held that the VVPAT system also had no value despite the order of the Supreme Court in all the polling stations since counting of VVPATs was prevented by ECI.


The Congress President also said the nation must understand and realize the dangerous trend of economic slowdown. 


The release added that considering that social media’s presence alone was not strong enough, Congress President Sonia Gandhi had directed to reach the people with the message that “together we must save the socialist, secular and democratic fabric as woven in the Constitution of India, from the hands of fascists and communal forces which are anti-Constitution.”


On September 13, Gandhi called a special meeting for North East states at 10 Janpath, New Delhi. The meeting was chaired by former Prime Minister M Dr Manmohan Singh in the presence of AK Anthony, Ahmed Patel and KC Venugopal on the issues of NRC, CAB, Naga Peace process and Special Category State provisions and its impact on development and economy, the release added.


The meeting decided to seek a White Paper from the BJP Government in respect of NE States particularly on special provisions provided in the Constitution with reference to Article 371.


The meeting further decided to establish NECCC Office in Guwahati, the mother state of North East India, with the objectives to monitor and smoothen social growth and facilitate economic growth.


The house viewed that the Northeast people being geographically locked together from the mainland with bottleneck connectivity, are interdependent in the growth of economy.


It added that the NECCC will continue to develop cordial relations with all the states, communities and improve association for they are the basic foundations to facilitate growth of economy.


Stating that the Congress believed peace and freedom of the individual as well as of society is the key to growth, it assured the people of the Northeast that they are safe in the hands of the Congress.
