Deo Nukhu stresses on preserving culture

Zhavame Students’ Union observes 57th General Session

KOHIMA, December 28 (MExN): The Zhavame Students’ Union observed its 57th General Session today at the Public Amphitheatre, Pame Tsüdu, Zhavame village with Parliamentary Secretary for Higher and Technical Education, Deo Nukhu as chief guest.  

Speaking on the occasion, Deo Nukhu noted that we live in changing times; he however impressed upon going back to our roots and preserving our culture. In the meantime, he said there are two types of education – formal and informal education. In this regard, he emphasized that people in both the categories should respect one another as they are both specialised in their own respective fields whether it is education in different aspects or to do with farming and agriculture.  

He further remarked that the strength of Zhavame village lies in their spirit of unity and urged upon the gathering to continue to uphold this virtue while quoting, “unity is our strength.” He also called upon young people to play active role in preservation of wildlife while stating that “preserving the future generation is in your hands.”  

In his exhortation, Village Council Chairman of Zhavame, Vivotso Domeh informed that the village council has resolved to set January 2, 2017 as a day of prayer to seek blessings for the New Year, wherein members of the village would spend time in prayer in their respective churches, renew themselves and pray before undertaking any activity for 2017. He also enlightened the gathering about several other resolutions that the village council has made.  

Motesou Rhi, who got through NPSC 2015, gave a brief sharing during which he stated that it is not easy to get through competitive examinations but asserted it is not an impossible task. Towards this end, he also dwelt on the need to put God first in their lives and pray, apart from working hard to achieve the desired goal. On the other hand, he stated the need for the students to venture into different fields, adding “My wish is that you excel in your respective callings.”  

Earlier, a moment of silence was observed in memory of the departed members of the village during the year 2016. Zhavame had lost both the oldest man (Late Rhipi Raphael Nukhu, aged 94) and oldest woman (Late Asü Matilda Krocha, aged 104) of the village on December 7, 2016 and December 19, 2016 respectively.  

ighlights of the inaugural session included unveiling of the union flag by the chief guest, opening prayer by Dizu Shupao, ZBC, special song by Lisi Shupao, presidential address by Medovi Rhi, special appearance by Khrurhülu Rhi, Gospel Voice Hunt Grand Finalist 2016, general secretary report by Derhü Pohena, meritorious award and closing prayer by Moliba Pohena, President, ZCYA.
