Desist from adopting a policy of confrontation: NPCC

Wrong of NSF to resort to economic blockade, says Therie

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 20 (MExN): In the backdrop of the escalating tension in Manipur, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K Therie on Tuesday opposed the confrontational actions from both the sides and appealed to all to desist from adopting a policy of confrontation.

“I appeal to all to desist from adopting a policy of confrontation and this has to start from the Church. People suffering for supporting the policy of confrontation are not the victims but they are connivers,” the NPCC president said in a press statement.

According to Therie, people are pained and hurt by the economic blockade imposed time-and-again, which imply that “let people die out of hunger and thirst” besides the strangling of economy and strangling of children to death. “The action is inhuman and unchristian-like,” he added.

“Christians are the best citizens of the World. Our religion does not preach violence. Love your enemy is the doctrine. Christians are expected to tolerate and find peaceful ways to solve the problems. We must show our doctrines in practice.”

At the same time, the NPCC president also termed as “inhuman and demonic” to attack peaceful travelers for no fault of theirs while also pointing out that destroying properties can’t be considered as wise action by any sensible person. “We do not agree with actions of both sides,” he said.

Pointing out that Nagas, Kukis and Meites will be neighbors forever, Therie lamented that confrontation and counter confrontation have destroyed peaceful coexistence. “Our lands are interlocked and will remain interlocked. We are interdependent politically and economically in reality and this will remain a reality. We have to work together and live together,” he maintained.

Also asserting that not all Nagas or Meites are bad, the NPCC president said the silent majority are good. “Nagas, Kukis and Meites have lived together in peace for centuries and may be more than thousand years for some. The Government cannot allow one to disturb the peace of ninety-nine forever.”

The NPCC president also criticized the action of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) to resort to economic blockade. He said negotiation is the only way out to resolve the problem. “Those living together have to find out unanimous solution. It is not the problem of others. Intelligent personalities and leaders should be allowed to put their heads together to find out the best course of solution,” he stated.
