DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 16 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) has expressed disappointment that timber laden trucks are still plying despite the appeal made by the union as well as the Deputy Commissioner banning logging activities in the district.
A press statement issued by ZSUN president Dithuibo Newmai and general secretary Adona Herie lamented that Peren district which is often tagged as green district by the state government is gradually losing its greenery because of rampant logging activities.
The road has also become a major concern with the timber loaded truck causing major damage to the road during the rainy season, it added.
In pursuing its resolution for the interest of the common people, the ZSUN had also conducted a consultative meeting with Peren District Timber Traders Union and the Forest Department on September 9, 2019, it stated.
While appreciating the PDTTU for its cooperation, the ZSUN has expressed discontentment and dismay on few individuals for carrying out logging activities still.
Terming it as a direct challenge to the initiative of the ZSUN, it has warned of action against any truck found ferrying timber during the banned period.
