Dimapur Football League season 2 in September

Season 2 of the Dimapur Football League (DFL) is scheduled for September. The organizer of the DFL, Naga United Football Club told a media conference held at the Vivid Lounge, Dimapur on August 8. 

The league will kick-start on September 3 at the DDSC Stadium. 

DFL 2 will likely see 12 teams but the organisers have yet to confirm on the size of the pool. “August 20 will be the final date for confirming participation. It is open football clubs based in Dimapur district,” said the organisers. It will be open to football clubs based in Dimapur. 

DFL 1 (2018) witnessed 8 teams in the pool with P Vizheto FC finishing top of the League. 

The organizers hinted at reducing the cap on the number of ‘away players’ to 3 per team. In DFL 1, it was capped at 4. The organizers said it was with the objective to give opportunity to Dimapur-based players. 

“Given the opportunity there is no dearth of players to sustain a League in Dimapur,” said one of the organizers. 

Season 2 will have matches played daily except Sundays unlike season 1 when games were held only on weekends. 

Registration forms will be available at the DDSC Stadium (Room No.4). DFL merchandise (T-shirts, flags, mufflers) will be made available for purchase at the venue as soon the League starts, it was informed. Queried on the prize for the winning team, the organizers said that DFL 1 carried a total cash prize of Rs. 3.5 lakh – champion and the runner-up plus 6 individual prizes. The organizers were yet to decide on season 2’s prize purse. 

Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports Zale Nyekha will declare the League open on September 3. Miss Dimapur 2015 Zehovire Avi Kechu will be the DFL 2 brand ambassador.
