Dimapur lifts 1st Late G Rio Memorial trophy

Dimapur, January 27 (MExN): Group A toppers Dimapur on Tuesday defeated Peren to emerge as champions of the first G Rio Memorial U-19 (Boys) Inter-District Tournament.

In the final match played in Dimapur on January 26, Group B toppers Peren won the toss and elected to bat.

With Parbez scoring 32 runs, Peren team managed an overall total of 75 runs before being bowled out in 26.2 overs.

Arjun led the wicket haul with 3 wickets while Renben N Odyuo and Rahul claimed 2 wickets each.

Keduowhetuo and Daniel Jamir also claimed a wicket each.

In the second innings, Ranjen’s 4-wicket haul could not stop Dimapur as Sujal and Tohuka led team Dimapur’s target chase to a successful end with 43 runs and 13 runs respectively.

Dimapur won the final match by 5 wickets in 12 overs to lift the trophy.

The Runners Up award was bagged by Peren district while Late G Rio Spirit of Cricket Award went to Mokokchung district.

Rokovoto Nyekha  of Peren was adjudged Player of the Tournament while Mughavi of Zunheboto won the Best Batsman award and Raja Swarnkar and Yungandhar Singh of Dimapur won the Best Bowler and Best Wicket Keeper respectively.

Zhaleo Rio, IAS (Rtd.), son of Late G Rio and Advisor, Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs, Government of Nagaland, who graced the closing and prize distribution ceremony as the special guest, encouraged the players and urged them to make use of the cricket facilities.

He also congratulated the winning team and also conveyed his best wishes to the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA).

NCA Hon Secretary Hyunilo Anilo Khing conveyed the Association’s gratitude to the special guest and also the participating districts and the cricket community of Nagaland for the success of the tournament.
