Dimapur: Odd-even traffic system to continue till Nov 30

Dimapur, November 1 (MExN): The Commissioner of Police (CP), Dimapur on Sunday informed that in continuation of the order issued earlier on October 3, the odd-even system of traffic regulations for non-essential vehicular movement within Dimapur town and NH-29 till Chümoukedima town will be in effect from November 2 till 30.

The order is in the interest of public safety during the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic and issued under section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the CP’s order stated.

Odd number days: On every Monday, Wednesday and Friday only vehicles with registration number ending with odd numbers (eg, 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9) will be allowed to ply.

Even number days: On every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday only vehicles with registration number ending with even numbers (eg, 2, 4. 6, 8 & 0) will be allowed to ply.

This restriction will not be enforced on Sundays, the order added.

Exemptions: The category under essential services as notified earlier will be exempted, it said. Further Government servants on bonafide government duties and vehicles involved in providing essential services/ involved in COVID -19 related duties will also be exempted from the purview of this restriction on production of relevant documents and valid ID proof. Two wheelers shall also be exempted from this traffic restriction.

Restricted movement of heavy vehicles
The CP’s order further notified that all heavy vehicles, except those engaged in the four lane construction work with valid permit will be restricted from plying within the town area and highway area from 09:00 hrs to 15:00 hrs.

Violation of the aforementioned order will be penalized U/S 177 and 179 of the MV Act 1988, the order cautioned and appealed for cooperation from the public.
