Discussion and awareness on diabetes

The Creative Network International (CNI) during its “celebration of success” programme here this evening at Hotel Japfu discussed at length on the problem of diabetes. The objective of today’s discussion on diabetes was to create awareness about diabetes and to let the members aware of the basic facts and information and to find ways to control and prevent it.

Resource person Dr. Swedevelu from health and family welfare department said that diabetes is a chronic disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. She said the cause of diabetes continues to be mystery, although both genetics and environmental factors such as obesity and lack of exercise appear to play roles. Diabetes affects nearly every organ system in the body (i.e. eyes, kidney, nerves, heart and blood vessels).

In India, it is estimated that presently 41 million individuals are affected by this deadly diseases which is likely to go up to 57.2 million by the year 2025.

She said the reason for this escalation are changes in lifestyle, people living longer than before (ageing) and low birth weight, which could lead to diabetes during childhood.
Later, T. Madhavan talked on Dia C Plus. The function also witnessed recognition of top sellers (firesens, SC 88 and hair tonic) and 30 CV achievers. Rajesh chaired the programme.
