DIMAPUR, AUGUST 12 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) has expressed concern over the potential influx of Bangladeshi nationals into northeastern India, particularly as civil unrest in Bangladesh escalates. A press release from the union said that this migration could significantly threaten the region's demographic and socio-economic stability, putting the cultural heritage and traditional way of life of the indigenous Naga people at risk.
According to the DNSU, a combination of economic disparities, political instability, environmental degradation, and cultural connections is contributing to this crisis. The porous borders and weak enforcement mechanisms in the region further exacerbate the situation, making it vulnerable to unchecked migration, it stated.
The DNSU called for implementation of stringent measures to regulate migration, ensure national security, protect indigenous rights, manage resources, and preserve cultural identity. They emphasized the importance of strictly enforcing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in border districts like Dimapur to mitigate the risks associated with uncontrolled migration. The DNSU stated that it will not tolerate any negligence or compromise on this critical issue.
