DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 28 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) said that the issue of retailing goods without the mandatory Maximum Retail Price (MRP) by shopkeepers in Dimapur requires “decisive measures.”
“During an emergency coordination meeting convened on November 28, 2024, along with seniors, tribunal members and constituent units, the house resolved to take decisive measures to address the issue,” stated the influential Dimapur-based students’ body.
On November 25, the DNSU had filed an FIR with the police against a shopkeeper for allegedly selling decorative items without MRP.
According to it, the FIR was filed based on reports its office received. Upon inspection, it held that that no product in the shop carried the required price tags. The police subsequently inspected and sealed the shop.
However, the DNSU said that the shopkeeper has resumed business, continuing to sell the products without MRP. Condemning this, it held that the shopkeeper should not be allowed to operate his business until the case is resolved satisfactorily. It added, “Any attempt to reopen his shop before the resolution of the case will be met with democratic course of actions by the DNSU.”
It demanded that the police and relevant authorities treat the matter with utmost urgency and take concrete steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
It further demanded that the authorities submit a report on the case to the DNSU office within 2 days. It called upon the civil society organisations, concerned authorities, and the general public not to support or condone the actions of the shopkeeper.
