Chi and Mon Land Owners’ Association (CMLOA) on Friday held a rally at Mon Town to boycott the upcoming Town Council Election at Mon Town for not implementing the 1964 Agreement inked between the Anghs of Chi and Mon village along with the village representatives and the government representative T. Alibah Ao the then ADC of Mon Town.

The 1964 Agreement resolved that Chi and Mon village shall enjoy 30-50 percent taxes from the Government and the Agreement to be reviewed after 25 years.

However, according to the Chi and Mon Land Owners’ Association, the 1964 Agreement was not reviewed as agreed and neglected for 52 years long until August 17, 2015 when it was reviewed with a government representative, Angou I Thou who was the then DC of Mon Town.

During the review meeting, the Association agreed to revoke the 1964 Agreement in lieu of appointment of Grade-IV staff to government departments falling under Mon Headquarter- a nominee each from Chi and Mon village as member in Mon Town Council and in the District Planning and Development Board.

Subsequently, an ultimatum was submitted to the government insisting that this demand be implemented on or before December 31, 2015.

However, with the State Government failing to implement their demands, the Association on Friday demanded the implementation of the earlier 1964 Agreement and cautioned that it would boycott the upcoming Town Council Election until their demands are met.

Hundreds of citizens carrying placards that read, “We demand our justice,” “Fulfil our demand immediately,” “Do not take land owners for a ride,” “Stop torturing the land owners,” etc marched from Newsite junction to the Deputy Commissioner’s office where a memorandum was submitted for necessary action.
