Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
- Yes, it was fair and square.
- At least there was no violence on the polling day. This is a good step.
- Yes. Not much violence.
- In my polling station, it was very much free and fair. Infact it was the most free and fair elections I have ever witnessed.
- Yes. nothing to comment, then to say JUST FAIR.
- It was free and fair in the sense that it was free for all the candidates to use money and muscle power. So it was fair.
Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
- Obviously NO! This is what an NDTV newsreader said on national TV the other day, “with elections in Nagaland, Nagas are doing everything that could possibly go wrong.” That says it all. What do you expect of a society where the guardians of the law, in this case, no other than the Home Minister himself, becomes a threat to a society? We will reap what we sow and our leaders will reap first and soon the rest will join. The thought of it is depressing, and the thought that my child is growing up in this environment sends shivers down my spine.
- There was some sign of fair in some part of the state but overall the use of money and guns were mostly reported
- No, the game is dirty, not the people.
- No, and then a big NO. It is a sepulcher with white wash only. One of the Chairmen said, yes, very peaceful but only a matter of show. Let us be real. God Bless.
- Big NO! There are a lot of violence that took place. In Singrijan violence took place, in Meluri under 20A/C too. So its not free and fair election. Lot of threatening took place.
- Not at all. In Pochury there are lot of misunderstanding parties, and in singrijan, there are lots of violence. So I can rightly say that because of some poll station it is not free and fair.
- Muscles and gun power were used.
- too much coup system, money power and muscle power displayed
- free n fair elections are a distant dream for us nagas.....we really do know how to sell ourselves for a few hundred rupees...its so sad
- No. crores of rupees spent by parties to buy votes. free flow of money arms n amo. seen everywhere, torture n killing among brothers 2013 election is by no means free n fair.
- No, Money was used. Undergrounds were involved.
- No, too much proxy....too much in flow of money…
- No, it was all corrupt, corrupt and corrupt!!! Proxy votes and violence everywhere.
- That would be a resounding NO!!! The fact that we are still willing to re-elect people with proof of corruption, also has so much to speak about the state of degeneration that our society is now in…
- In some village there was completely 100% voter turn out only for N.P.F party.
- Not at all, many proxy was cast, even people those who failed to collect there voters card were collected by party workers and cast as proxy this election was not fair at all.
- No. I was a witness to Booth capturing too. But nobody said anything because they were threatened not to. I couldn't say anything because i was not from that constituency. But i sure did file my complaint to the ECI online.
- No. it is becos the is no relationship betwn the votes secure by party n its strength in the state legislative assembly. in nagaland election is a very costly affair for both who conduct and contest election. the vicious role played by money power in deciding election is one of the critical problem. the political parties and candidates use muscle power or engage in criminals for booth capturing, casting bogus votes, forcing voters to vote. as such, nagaland electoral system suffers from chronic factionalism.
- The BIGGEST NO in this world!!! Voter slips being taken away, booth capturing, threatening, beating up people, killing people, destroying properties and above all(though no one wants to admit) some church members taking money for their votes....... So much for NBCC's clean election. But atleast some polling booths practiced clean polling and thats a big step.
- Free and Fair election?? This very terminology is zapped out since the election fever took over....…
- ABSOLUTELY NOT. With rampant proxy votes, village heads voting on behalf of the entire village, ECI turning a blind eye on the illegal acts of contestants, the list goes on and on; although this election was relatively peaceful, it was in no way free nor fair.
- No... this was free and unfair voting style. Free in a sense that everyone could vote for everyone, even male voters voted with female voters slip. Even some parents were there who took the time to earn to their heart content. This was really bullshit. Shame on all who did this.
- Totally a big NO...proxy voters outnumbered genuine voters…
- No, corruption is the only thing thats free and fair at the Land of Christ
- Free and Fair? NO! but definitely cleaner and fairer as compared to past elections due to extensive Special Summary Revision of E. Roll and Clean Election Campaigns.
- Haha I don't agree ,peace violence? Politicians Hv become clever as never. I believe it's money transition basically wt I mnt to say is that wn u have money, will u want to create commotion.
- No! if elections means the right to secret ballot and vote for whoever the voter feels should be elected. Yes, if elections are just a formality for representing what a family, a village, a clan or for that matter an area has already decided to support.
- No it was not, moreover candidates will criminal records given the privilege to contest was also undigestible; hey dear village leaders/ villagers what have you got at heart supporting and working for them, try approaching them after everything is settled down and see how much do they care for you or your families or even the villagers or for the land.
- no!! use of money power was as usual.... but surprisingly where did all those gun holders came from irrespective of underground and overground as if we are in the rebel hit state where there is no democracy??
- This election is worst corrupted than before. The clean election campaign proves futile n useless coz more money has been used by the politician this election. Thank u politicos for sharing our developmental money with the Nagas.
- No, it has gone from bad to worse. The BLO’s, the chairmans, the panchayats and the youth in general have complete control of misusing the voters slips according to their party favors. It became a big business. Next time like those days, let the party wise distribute the slips freely. The voiceless are always the victims. So discouraged to see the absence of volunteers for clean elections on the day when postal ballot papers are issued. The way the Nagas, especially ladies with bulky bags …. at the premises of the administration buying this papers. Security guards are just puppets. They also had their fills. Even in a constituency where a candidate is a sure winner with 80%, rigging was there. An open secret. Besides, other forces having moral support spoils the game causing maximum damage. When one cannot do it in Nagaland, there is no chance in nay other place. Only a severe natural calamity which is the leveler of all men will teach us a lesson so hard to forget as up above us will also be losing His patience and tolerance now.
- I don’t feel Fee and Fair manner. It was one/two man casting vote for the electorate of each polling station (polling officers know the best). This is clean election.
- 0ld habitz die hard.…
- NO, compulsory proxy in every polling stations
- No, not at all..nagas still remains under the clutches of unruly mob, money power and ignorance of clear insight when it comes to electioneering process..poor state governed by gangsters.
- No!! absolutely no.. the elections were not held in a free and fair manner … and I guess it will never will be in Nagaland… absolutely no right to vote!
- Money,Guns, n Satan's Power among some Nagas failed to act free n fair.
- 90% of people used money, how can we says it is free n fair.. Free for money' n 'Fair for money'.
Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
- It varies from place to place. In other words, in some places it was conducted in a fair manner, but its not in many other places.
- Need drastic change in the election voting system…
- only50% polling stations are free & fair election
- Free, fair=election in Nagaland sounds OXYMORON
- NBCC’s clean election campaign has been partially effective as we have less violence comparing to last election. What about capturing the vote at gun-point? Does NBCC have a say in this?
- May be from someone point of view it was fair. But any sane person could not call this a free and fair election. I've never seen corruption blowing out of proportion like this in my entire life as during this election. I guess around 90% of the people sold their vote this time. Money flooded like water this time.. It was really nonsense. So many VIPs got caught with crores of money, weapons, black dogs and blenders pride..lol In a humorous way it was like Christmas.
- Yes n no, due to ignorance f d people some r not familiar about how to case their vote on the voting machine. I heard that some people has pressed the wrong button of their candidate. Haha its true
- fair and free is the last thing that happened during the election. I don't only blame the candidates but also the public. where were all those people who demanded for a free and fair election. where were the so called mother's association, youth association, and all those other shenanigans... it's our fault entirely...
