Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
• Yes, Nagaland will change only when we start taking steps to make it better. We should not wait for our leaders to bring change. They are not capable of it. Let us not make our leaders bigger than who they really are. When we expect them to do too many big things, we are giving them too much credit and we are disappointed when they fail. We have been disappointed too many times already, so let’s not make our leaders too big. Let us build people’s power. Great expectation and change will come in 2012 when the people realize that the power is with them and only the people can bring change in Nagaland.
• Expectation, is something that is common for everyone, everywhere i for one, from Nagaland working in Bangalore have high hopes and expectations for my people back home, expecting that things will get better, and somewhere along the way we happen to understand that now is the time to be United for a better future, prosperity and to achieve that "50" long year dispute, the sooner we understand that the better it'll be for us. Time will tell whether we were able to meet those expectations. Till then will have to go where the wind blows.
• Yes, I do have expectations for the Nagas in 2012. If I did not have expectations than how would our society change. One of the reasons why our society is getting worse is because people have given up hope. They have stopped having expectations and so unintentionally, they too start contributing to the problem. No matter what one's situation is, we must have expectations for the better.
• Alternative Arrangement
• Indo-Naga peace settlement may be brought to an end in the Naga struggle.
• Naga solution
• Obviously yes because Nagas are really competing each other in every field and even the government are also helping our young generation for the beta of our state…
• There is no reason why we should be so pessimistic that we should not have expectations for a better 2012. Is it not the very purpose of living to make our lives better. Most of the Nagas too have become too comfortable or too indifferent to care anymore. They say they are fed-up with the situation and will blame all kinds of people, organizations, governments, etc for their mess, but they dont seem to be doing anything about it. Nagaland is dying. We need to make it a better place for all.
• Naga integration
• Look forward for lokayuktas
• This year has started with a very tragic note. The accidents, the deaths of four youths in Kohima and all these kind of news is very depressing by nature. But it also makes you think that life is short, so make the most of it. I often find many people complaining about how things are and how because of other people (factions, politicians, bureaucrats) that Nagaland is not developing. But what are they doing themselves. What have they done for Nagaland. All their whining will not change Nagaland either. Life is short, so lets make the best use of it.
• Why not, it may sound a bit selfish but I being a very hard worker with a great sense of optimism, there is always room for improvement basically if only by beginning at an individual level in any manner all the way to a societal level as what is good for a society is good for an individual and vice versa. My perspective on the current scenario at this junction, individual as well as collective efforts at every societal stratum of Nagas will give a shot in the arm. Yes, in the long run, there is contagious ray of hope and expectations for Nagas as being unique by nature and our society having great potential to find the place in the sun. As imperfect as I am , so do my fellow nagas my realistic expectations on them while basing on the ground reality in just one year ahead are highly unlikely to be a remarkable one on any sphere of life where my foresight doesn’t rule out like another year goes as business as usual, albeit by contrast, my long term expectations on our fellow nagas are exciting and fascinating if only with a number of positive role models walk hand in hand with the up-coming generation to confidently take to where the parochial mind is led forward by thee in to ever widening thought and action.
Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
• Given the dismal state of affairs in our state it is difficult to share your optimism. 'Great expectations' would mean that right environment conducive to growth and productivity is in place but reality tells us otherwise. To highlight one variable for growth: Our Roads are in a deplorable state, as always, affecting access to health care and education - both of which are vital for a dignified existence. It is imperative that we rectify our inefficiencies, reallign our efforts, and concentrate on building systems to enhance our productive capacities. Then, maybe, we can look towards the future with optimism.
• lack in quality education
• My expectations have always failed me, and left me totally confused. Don't know whether to blame the public, the government or the assembly. I have no great expectations, but only hopeful that we can live up to the challenge of time.
• Doing nothing
• Every aspect of our system is in complete chaos. The whole lot of us including u and i deserved to own responsibility for this disorder. The government or the factions or the church who if to be blamed, then thousands of points can be raised! However, what can we expect in a failed and a decaying society! There is absolutely nothing to expect! I would sincerely prefer all of us standing our grounds firm in doing what should be done and doing it rightly instead of dwelling on expecting an idealistic 2012 to be an utopia for Nagas.
• Only God knows! No expectation.
• Every year come with some expectation that at least something change may come, but it become worse, money lottery, false promised, threatening civilian with consequences, take innocence life, join uniform within a year built a building drive Safari, Scorpio Alto, Maruti and roam around a bazaar, ask for easy money, how can a civilian like me expect anymore.
• Sadly no, with general election around the corner i only see the 'fund's' for our development wasted on useless donations
• Because everyone want to be head.
• Because they have exalted themselves more then God.
• They have not humble enough before God.
• What do naga expect with those misbread people.
• We cannot expect the present group of leaders to lead the people to a better future. They are all selfish and do not think for the people as they whole. Their interest in local politics far outweighs the naga national interest and this is the reason why we are not progressing at all.
Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
• Every year people of nagaland ends the year with great expectation that something good may come in the coming year...???? Guess it yourself?????????
• As a human being I have no other choice but to have the best expectations for the future. But at times it is really depressing because when we look at the state of affairs, its only getting from bad to very worse. Rio has no other agenda but to develop Kohima district, the so called national workers are only collecting wealth and fighting among themselves over it, the Church has become immune to the ever deteriorating situation and people like us have nothing better to do than to keep complaining.
• At least better roads
• We have no other choice but to have hope and great expectations. But I think Nagas are scared to even hope. We have become too pessimistic in life.
• After the second world war when Japan was completely devastated and had nowhere to go, I wonder what gave them the will power to not give up hope and to become a leading country in the modern world. Nagas must also look for what will give us that will power from within us. I think in the case of the Nagas it is our belief in Jesus Christ. If Nagas are so adamant in our belief of Jesus Christ than why cant we also think that He wants us to do something about our situation. Don’t you think Jesus is wanting us to stand for righteousness? Or are we just so spiritually empty that we fear to have any hope and expectation?
• If we continue with the trend of harboring and patronizing the anti-Naga and anti-Christian elements in their treacherous designs to distort and destroy all possible Christian values. Hope and growth (either directly or from behind the screen) instead of helping them – acknowledge Christs Lordship or if not to stay at their own realm of influence and leave us alone, then 2012 might be the year the enemy might try to seal their futile final victory sign and should the doors of hope for us, and such developments might unveil one of the real natures of conflict “clash of civilization and ways of life.” May we let our Faith, God’s presence, help!
