Do you support a lockdown in Nagaland to combat COVID-19 pandemic?

Some of those who voted YES had this to say: 604

  • Yes, I totally support a lockdown initiated by Govt. Of Nagaland as a preventive measures from outbreak of Corona Virus (COVID-19). The first step taken by Chinese Government to contain and prevent the spread of COVID-19 was to lockdown the Transportation & public movement which reduces the infection greatly in Wuhan city. The churches in Nagaland should also support and cooperate with this Order. Because virus don't see any religion/colour/creed. After all God Help to those who help themselves. (Isaiah: 26:20) also speaks about Quarantine so stay at home and save lives.
  • I strongly urge for total lockdown and request all the citizens to please stay indoors. This virus is not a joke. People are dying and it is spreading like a wildfire. It can reach anytime. Sadly, we do not have proper medical facilities and hospitals in many villages.
  • Yes.. Staying home and avoiding the rush and social gathering. And taking precautions will best to combat with corona
  • Nagas are very humble, soft hearted people and at times very ignorant, a lockdown is a best way to make know how serious COVID-19 is. This contagion being spread from person to person will have no surface or means to spread if we restrain from meeting people and giving it a chance to spread. I support the lockdown as it is the only way to contain the spread.
  • Right measure to stop wide spread. To fighting from corona virus
  • "Extreme problems require extreme solutions.” Right now we are in a "do or die" situation. It would be foolish on our part, not to support total lockdown. Look at other parts of the world that didn't impose a total lockdown, and are now paying the price. Let's learn from them before it's too late.
  • It seems the best way to protect against the virus!
  • It is for our own safety.
  • Yes I agree, but my family will die because of hunger, if I didn't work in daily wages, what do you say?
  • Yes, it's best to be on the safe side taking all necessary precautions than be hospitalized or may be 6 feet under due to negligence.
  • It must be implemented with strict regulations for the safety of all.
  • I strongly urge for total lockdown and request all the citizens to please stay indoors. This virus is not a joke people are dying and is spreading like wildfire, it can reach anytime! Sadly, we do not have proper medical facilities and hospitals in many villages.
  • Yes I totally support. Best example can be taken from Italy crisis. To contain this epidemic from spreading to other places. Lockdown should be strictly implemented. All the citizens should follow Govt guidelines in order to safe precious Life.
  • Yes (Definitely). Because I want to keep my family and everyone safe. Hence hoping that everyone will “rest in(our) home " and avoid to " rest in peace " . We have one life which is more precious.... no retake, no rewind!
  • The only option to tackle it, to lock down at least 14 days.
  • Yes. Dude it’s a team work, cooperate with the Govt. please.
  • Yes .It should be total lockdown in order to prevent before it injected to Nagaland...
  • Yes, that's the only way to stay safe.
  • Delete, hide or report this.
  • Actually we should lockdown all railways, airports and public transformation too.
  • Yes, there's no plan B.
  • Yes. This is the only solution to stop the spread of viruses.
  • Yes ...whereas I will say...it must be 100% lockdown.
  • Yes and 100% lock down needed.
  • Yes. Absolutely necessary!
  • Yes we have zero chance if it reaches Nagaland.
  • It’s for our safety Govt is doing well
  • Yes. Whoever says No. Go spread somewhere else.
  • It's for our own safety. Desperate times need desperate measures.
  • Because staying indoor is the best solution to spread out the virus and to safe the humanity
  • 100% Yes with few suggestions to make it a huge success

1) Grievance cell/contact number should be provided to report price hoardings

2) Strict implementation in urban areas. Since early morning today, I can see trucks carrying sand nonstop. Some autos and private cars plying as usual or more than other days.

  • Yes. The government has done their part. Now it is the time of general public to show their responsibility in such trying times. We can't always blame the government for all but we also need to take our own share and fight together against the virus.
  • Of course' Yes'...whoever it may be “Prevention is better than Cure".
  • Yes. The Government has acted wisely and promptly. It’s upto us to act responsibly in these testing times to be successful in fighting this virus. Take care so that we save each other!
  • Yes at least for two weeks as these two weeks are the deadliest.
  • Yes, better take precautions early and be safe! We never know what will happen next ...
  • Yes, we the Nagas tend to take things very lightly so for precaution and safety of all our sakes a complete lockdown is supported. It will be quite inconvenient and affect livelihood of many but desperate times do call for desperate measures.
  • Yes! that is the need of the hour.
  • Yes. Prevention is the only way forward as of now.
  • Yes. Better act now or we will regret later
  • The only protection gear that we have right now to prevent this pandemic is Lockdown!!! They are dying out there inspite of being the most equipped and advanced countries. Do we even have a Testing Laboratory in the whole of Nagaland?
  • Yes. And all tests relating to COVID 19 should be free of cost.
  • Obviously yes. Who asks such stupid question?
  • Yes and strictly enforce it.
  • Yes. No testing centre, lack of health care, weakest state, Negative budget… etc. This is the best possible way.
  • Yes... We don't have equipments or resources, so it's best this way... Stay safe
  • Yes, definitely. Our only way and last resort to combat the spread, considering the present facilities, logistics and infrastructure of our state.
  • Yes but preventive measures should be taken for daily needs beforehand.
  • Yes, very much. Prevention is better than cure.
  • Absolutely Yes for few months.
  • Yes. Its hard time for all. Ours is a close knit society. The imposition maybe a little harsh but in this situation is a must. May this time be a time of self retrospection, rebuilding of the family relationship especially in this busy world and most importantly realize how helping ourselves is the best help. May our Almighty God be with us all.
  • Yes. And why take such a poll! Makes no sense
  • Yes please! Desperate times asked desperate measures!
  • Yes I do. It is going to reach our doorsteps if not our homes very soon, the way people have been so relaxed about it. Even the governments both at the center and at state levels have been more reactionary than being proactive and are still unprepared. No matter the numbers thrown out to the public, I think the infected numbers are far greater and the only way we can be safe is if everyone and I mean everyone, isolates themselves from each other for at least a month! In a state like Nagaland where we don't even have an in-state testing facility and outdated and inadequate equipments and gears, the fear is greatest. So the only way we can protect ourselves is a complete lockdown. I fear for our front line workers as we really are playing tag with danger.

Our people self medicate often, so even as lockdown is initiated, systems for people to reach authorities and get education on what to do and what not to do, is imperative. Government should set up billboards everywhere with phone numbers of who to reach and hopefully it's at least 5-6 numbers provided along with giant billboards on what they should be doing. Colonies should be visited with the old fashioned way of making announcements too.

Commodities prices instead of going up should be fixed lower for people to be able to survive at a time when salaries may not be available. And government has to involve the private sector if they want more efficient participation. Designated Hospitals to tackle only the infected patients should be done, this way non infected people are isolated elsewhere. Otherwise we will have chaos. Even as lockdown happens, a volunteers' registry should also be initiated and they should be trained and not allow any Tom, Dick and Harry to just randomly step in! They can be a reserve for any future necessity too

  • Of course big Yes... Lockdown.. open only essential
  • Yes ...whereas I will say...it must be 100% lockdown
  • Yes.Yes.Yes. we have zero chance if it reaches Nagaland.
  • Until we have the vaccine, this may be the best way to contain the virus.
  • There is no other way to stop this killer virus.
  • For larger public interest, we must cooperate with the government.

Some of those who voted NO had this to say: 4

  • No. Because this is causing too much fear and panic to the people. Rather govt. must focus on facilities for testing lab and keep hospital and health centres open 24*7 in case of emergencies and for covid-19 positive patients
  • trust in the Lord N a big" NO"
  • Just lockdown will not help, there is no plan set up by the govt of Nagaland after the lockdown and the general public does not know how long the lockdown will be enforced.

Businesses are being affected, people won’t be able to pay monthly rent and so many problems the general public will have to endure. If this lockdown buys us time to arrange for more hospitals beds, respirators and COVD-19 test centre, which we are lacking immensely, it would make sense but so far the government of Nagaland isn't bringing any plans to the table other than total lockdown.

Moreover one cannot rule out the possibility of a second wave of outbreak after the lockdown.

  • There’re certain criteria to be followed I believe. People panic buying is not possible for all classes of the society. Even if possible, if there’s no avail of public transport, it’s all in vain as middle class communities cannot gain access to such availability if there’s no transportation. A certain time limit to store up and get ready for the lockdown should’ve been provided, is why I do not support the sudden closure, though I agree with the closure to combat the pandemic disease.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say: 28

  • We are very poor family, no money nothing, we're just daily labours... If Nagaland lockdown what we will eat, morning, Evening, what do you say this matter?
  • What kind of a poll is this? Suppose you don't support the lockdown, what other measures do you have? Please be sensible for once. Peace out!
  • A lockdown is necessary. But the government should also announce or come up with some economic package so that daily wage earners are not affected. It's the poor that will be affected the most in the lockdown.
  • Lockdown of all shop and increase the price its totally NO daily bread earner are under starvation now Nagaland Govt should renew their brains
  • Yes, but does it really work? Local taxis and other commercial vehicles are plying as usual. Where is the district administrations?
  • Yes. But what is the alternative that government provide to labourer and daily earner?
  • Govt servant, students will say Yes. Daily wages earner, poor farmers will say No. Lockdown is necessary but first take steps to help the poor needy
  • ICMR has officially said that..India's only weapon is social distancing
  • Atleast come up with some relief measures such as advance pension, wages, supply rations for the BPL families…
  • Should have done earlier but nevertheless it's a good initiative by the state government.
  • Arrange the essential foods and medicine and then lockdown for one month.
  • Is this even a question to b asked at such crisis?
