Do you support Nagaland Government’s decision not to buy costly cars?

Some of those who voted  YES had this to say:
•    With a pathetic and "unique" road as Nagaland, every officials require JCB..because nagas like to spend foolishly
•    why let them have all the Privileges, they should think about the poor and innocent public, and development, even if they bought costly cars it will be only for the duties of their school going children and wives marketing duty, let the govt forget about the costly or low cost cars, every govt officer have their own private cars, (bought by unclean money)
•    Because inorder to meet the offer of every individual.
•    Yes, for equal distribution of national wealth.
•    Yes, it is about time that the government must take decisive steps to prove that they really care about the increasing gap between rich and poor. The misuse of funds by govt on luxury items such as expensive cars is a concern for all. So hopefully the government will implement this in letter and in spirits.
•    Yes, huge loss for the govt
•    Because expensive cars are of no use in the rotten roads of India, you still have to go with terrible low speed & traffic jam , and it saves lot of breads for poors.
•    Think poverty in Nagaland
•    Our fiscal deficit is already too high and there is no proper revenue yielding work in the state.
•    YES! Yes! and double Yes again!! If others can condemn a car and repair it and reuse it... they should jolly well do the same and reuse it instead of selling the cars...
•    Yes, the poor public are tired of seeing how the government officials are using expensive cars instead of spending the money for the people. I just hope that the government is really serious and that it will take measures to really check the purchase of costly cars by the govt depts..
•     Yes, this leads to the cause route of materialism.
•     Yes, very much. It should have been enforced long ago. Its not only this but all other allowances dear to the exchequer should be minimized for government official in order to help our poor people. An example, keeping unnecessary number of guards and vehicles including their private ones, if flashed could help a downtrodden like me. Things should be made transparent immediately else there is nothing that can be hidden today.

Some of those who voted NO  had this to say:
•    When the ministers, officers and government employees have already bought the best of cars and automobiles, than it is useless to say that they now discourage the purchase of costly cars. If they are sincere, the government should pass an order recalling all luxury cars purchased at the expense of the exchequer, and the luxury cars should be sold to the public in an auction. The money obtained from the auction can be used for some charity work.
•    I say no because I doubt the intention of the government. After doing all their dirty deed, its funny that they are now talking about austerity. Its quite shameful and arrogant that they have the guts to even make such a decision when they have violated every corrupt act.
•    This is an insult to the Officers in the Secretariat. Imagine a Joint Secretary, who is equivalent to DC in the District and Addl. Director in the Directorate, with Maruti Eeco. Whereas even Class-II Officers in the Directorate are attached with no less than a Gypsy/Bolero. What a shame.
•    Hahaha after they have all bought expensive luxury cars, now they are making this rule. Govt should also declare that no officers should build big houses or buildings. For how long can they fool the public with this stupid notifications and orders.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
•    While this decision is welcome is it not a bit too late. With elections just around the corner is the government trying to win people's heart. They have plundered the treasurery for four years and just when they need the people, their concern to cut back costs seems quite lame.
•    The costly Cars for Nagas is just a Status, which makes no sense when there is no goodroads and majority of the Naga people is living Below Poverty Lines and the highest BPL in the National census. But if any elected govt takes such decision from the day they comes to power then its worth, but just at the end of their tenure is suspicious.
•    It will be a flop austerity policy....
•    let every entitled officers be granted interest free loans to buy vehicles of their choice. the loan can be limited to within the repaying capacity of the officer i.e. certain multiples of his salary at the time of drawal of the loan. the vehicle will be his own and will be used carefully. a fixed maintenance allowance or Travelling allowance depending on the usage of vehicles for bonafide government duties may also be allowed. a second loan cannot be allowed before the completion of repayment of first loan...... i think this could solve the mobility problem of officers, and save government money as well.
• No need anything if the naga can not understand the fruit of unification (no peace no solution) presenting money by GOI for dividing naga's brother must be check by the government with praying from all nagas churches member to make better Nagalim.
•  dunno whether its for touring purpose or for internal city transport. The conditions of district roads being such that buying a cheap vehicle doesn't solve the problem of extravagance. In fact, maintenance and repair on accelerated wear and tear will be costly. Therefore, it's better to buy a costly but sturdy all-terrain vehicle for touring purposes.
•    then first build the pot holes road and buy whatever expensive car nahoi?
•    About 90% of the luxury cars in Nagaland are govt vehicles which turns to scrap within 2-3 years. It happens only in Nagaland. Is the govt serious or just a political gimmick? Only time will tell.
•    Who cares....How can we define expensive????? Are we in a position to state what car is cheap??????...come on guys....
•    Do they care? Bah! They must be comparing the 'costly' cars with Audis, Benz and Bently...some VIPs surely must have indented for these vehicles. If the govt. firmly stands on their decision, they should simply put a ceiling on the cost for purchase of govt. vehicles, not as costly cars.
•    Govt must just stop giving car or vehicle to officers. Govt must cut this dependency model and invest in school infrastructure and other development.
•    Why do they need costly car anyway? Imagine costly maintenance which they dont care because its a Govt car! They should have limited Auto Allowance 'same amount to everyone' so they will prioritize their travel. Just a thought
•    Has that decision made any impact on how tax payers money through central schemes are being used? NO! The government agencies and departments have nicely found a way out by purchasing vehicles through project and other funds and registering it privately. That way, purchase of vehicles by the government is not reflected in 'official' records. I wonder if this in itself is legal? Just look around and you will see most project vehicles bearing private number plates.
•    Apart from taking essential creature comfort into account, who am I to question the flamboyant lifestyle and conspicuous consumption of the big guns and the class conscious bureaucrats of Nagas at large while they turn a blind eye to the pathetic and miserable reality on the ground, and live a life in a make believe world with quiet paradoxical and makes me incomprehensible. Their stature, designated jobs, assigned works, or for that matter caliber may have certain privileges and right to carry out their daily assigned activities behind the wheel of the imported brands of sleek SUVs . But at the same time, they should be primarily responsible for making aware of all the backward state of affairs in reality as Nagaland is such a low income state with no economic productivity up to the mark and in fact the local economic remain comically stagnant with 74 per cent of the total population lean solely on agricultural and farming activities for their means of livelihood lagging behind the present day knowledge based society where the enterprising people with their brain teeming with cutting edge ideas thriving on enterprise and perseverance while talking about the innovative ideas, information, superhighway, world-class and state- of- the- art -infrastructure whereas for the Nagas the current sign of the times is obviously self explanatory.
