Do you think that resumption of the city bus and introduction of the pink bus service will ease traffic congestion in Dimapur? How?

Some of those who voted YES had this to say:

• Yes, the resumption of the city bus and introduction of the pink bus service will ease traffic congestion in Dimapur to a very large extent. It's just plain simple math. However, we need more busses than that has been introduced. Covering larger areas. So also prepayment on monthly basis could possibly work for students and regular working class.

• Yes. Less autos and vehicles in the road.

• Yes, if the resumption of the city bus can reduce the number of autorickshaw plying on the road.

• Yes, certainly it will discourage one man, one vehicle and it will improve traffic congestion.

• Yes. Dimapur City Bus from Chümoukedima town to Dimapur. Few things to consider how to make this public transport system successful revenue generator. In the years to come with revolution it will generate more income.

1. It will reduce traffic jam to great extend. Let’s assume; the bus can carry passengers of equivalent to ten autos or more. We have only one bridge pliable, which means more than ten autos are off the road.

2. Make autos to ply only in adjoining highway from village and colony approach roads as it is not safe for passenger moving on the highway. And if we look at rate of accidents and traffic snarls it is mostly by the autos.

3. It will reduce undocumented immigrant drivers whose intention is to make money.

4. The NST bus earning will come back to our state exchequer and it will not go out of our state and utilise for state development. At the same time passengers pocket burden are lightened and safe. On the part of passengers safety, friendly and convenience it will be great to see that cleanliness is maintained by the concerned department. If air conditions are installed in the busses it will draw more passengers to travel coolly by bus than sitting in the scorching heat by the autos. If in the develop states, people can ply in public transport why not here? We can do it. But the concerned authority overlooks the passenger convenience and comfort which is the most important factor. Remember, I repeat the autos should relocate from highway which is not that safe for travellers.

• Yes, to some extent. Apart from the fewer uncivilised Nagas that drive a vehicle with no traffic or civic sense, it is mostly the autorickshaw drivers that congests the traffic by moving over all available spaces.. in a mad rush to drop the passengers so as to return at the earliest...factors may vary; from wanting to earn more and the size of the auto that is easily maneuverable to the fact that they do not have any traffic sense as driving licenses are issued randomly if one can pay whatever amount the transport authority demands. Following traffic rules at all times by all drivers/riders will be the number once factor for easing the traffic congestion at any place but replacing the autos in the highway by the buses will definitely easy traffic congestion to some extend.

Some of those who voted NO had this to say:

• No. Most traffic jams are due to bottle necks at particular points. Yes, the buses will reduce the number of autos plying on the road by a bit. However the main problems of traffic congestion cannot be solved just by adding a few more buses. Good roads along with strict enforcement of traffic rules will be more effective in the long run.

• No. More vehicles mean more traffic problems.

• No, private vehicles owners will not use buses or autos, some of the auto passengers will use the buses, however the number of auto will not decrease, having buses is a good move but adds to the problem. Since number of vehicles are not decreasing noting changes for the good. Cut the numbers of autos then the traffic will improve by having buses.

• No. traffic rule violators are plenty with no systematic traffic management.

• No. There are no proper roads in Nagaland let alone traffic rules. We're talking about a "few buses". Let's not make this news as if it's a big initiative. This question is irrelevant.

• No. I don’t think the introduction of these buses will ease traffic congestion. Taking the example of Kohima, there are numerous of city buses, yet the people owning private vehicles tend to use their own instead of public vehicles. No matter what color or how many buses we introduce, we should change our mentality first only than changes will be seen. Using of public transport must be encouraged and utilizing it will bring massive changes.

• No, Never. It’s adding another traffic problem. Unless other services like auto rickshaw and rickshaw are banned.

• No. Absence of city Bus service is not the cause of traffic congestions in Dimapur.   • No. First, entry of heavy vehicles into the city should be restricted.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:

• Stop halting in non bus stop places.

• It should, but it’s Nagaland and people here love their cars so...

• I think proper traffic signal and learning of some basic road rules might also help.

• Auto rickshaw should not be allowed to ply in national highway!

• The autorickshaw need to go, they create more congestion to traffic and also traveling in such polluted atmosphere in autorickshaw is harmful to all. Moreover the prices are too high. It's much safer in city bus and also healthy considering the roads and dust pollutions.

• If the number of autorickshaw decreases by 70% and if the government provides 30-35 buses then I guess it will reduce traffic congestion.
