Do you think the increasing social media outlets in Nagaland which are reporting on news are leading to healthy and constructive discussions? Give reasons

Some of those who voted YES had this to say:
•    Yes. Something is better than nothing. Though it is in the infant stage gradually we will see maturity with experience.

•    Absolutely 100% yes, instant news, face to face intense interviews and above all it's somehow slowly evolving into interrogative journalism.

•    Yes. I guess you are up to provoking ban of free speech. Be careful you maybe burning your own land.

Some of those who voted NO had this to say:
•    No. Even though social media is buzzing with a lot of outlets that are covering news from different parts of Nagaland, it is not news reporting. It is mostly personal views and comments of individuals. This cannot be categorized as news.  What we have is discussions around views and opinions but not on facts. Any discussion which is not based on facts, but on personal opinions will not lead to constructive and healthy discussions.

•    No, because the media outlet don't go deep to find out the actual cause and many reasons, somehow they are biased, say for example when we talked about on gender issues, which is very case sensitive, apart from politics ,they (media) have a habit of being biased to a particular gender. They (media) think we are living in Western and European countries where people leave by different norms and regulations (The questioned on morality doesn't exist in western and European countries) .They media have a habit of pointing fingers a lot.

•    No. Nagaland media do not have investigative journalism. It is mostly paid news.

•    No. There are a lot if misinformation and sensationalism. There is difference between unbiased news and cooked up stories based on individual opinions. It is very easy to mislead the mass. Perhaps, some lessons on ethics should help.

•    They are too afraid to highlight the real problem

•    No. Too many empty headed people giving their obnoxious opinions

•    No because most of the social media outlets which are reporting on news are not done from a journalistic approach.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:
•    For a daily dose of information, my personal requirement is met through a physical daily or their smartphone application in case a physical one is not available. This preference is built on a trust of the principled journalistic practices the news outlet employs and maintains such responsibility over time. Journalism through credible journalistic practices is a need much more in today's time owing to the influx of multiple outlets thanks to internet penetration. Credibility and first hand information if available to the masses in remote locations by the other set of news outlets are a welcome addition to the existing traditional news outlets and also a reminder to the traditionalists to revamp their approach with changing times and improve their reach to the masses topologically. A healthy and constructive discussion on the other hand will need a platform and if a platform available is used for such, then its existence is justified. The justification for such will although rest on the credibility of the organisation and its people and their qualification in the field of journalism and their allegiance to the principles of journalistic practices and not some social media availability and the want to put across a personal version without adhering to the laid down ethics of journalism and its need.

•    Well, on one hand, I do appreciate that Hornbill TV, NLTV and even WeTheNagas page on Instagram is giving people a platform to have critical conversations about big issues, and even if people don't want to take part in the conversation they at least know that there are people talking. However, I think that these social media/news outlets should research thoroughly and let the viewers see the objective view of such issues. A few weeks ago I saw NLTV covering the conditions of roads after crossing Zion Hospital and it was encouraging to see the public concerned but we all know why the condition of the roads are like that. The Government and I hoped that they would really dig into the rabbit hole and reveal the truth of things. Its constructive criticism and I hope that all outlets of news stay unbiased and give people the objective truth. I know money = power in Nagaland but living in fear will only pile up the problems, I think.

•    50/50

•    Common people of Nagaland have a long way for healthy and constructive discussions to be made with a sense of reason.

•    Yes to power of the press way to go. kuknalim
