Ohiduz Zaman’s phone has not stopped ringing since the results of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Exams were declared on Tuesday. The youngster from Dimapur who topped the exam in the Science stream by securing 480 (96%) out of 500, attributed his success to self motivation and due diligence.

“Right now, I am feeling quite satisfied and content. I am happy that I could make my parents and teachers happy and I thank them for their contributions in every way,” he said. Ohiduz, a student of Dimapur’s Little Star Higher Secondary School, prepared for the examination by staying focused on his studies despite the uncertainty brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking about his preparation process, Ohiduz told The Morung Express on Tuesday afternoon that he took his online classes and the online tests seriously and never lost focus on his studies. “I tried to make the most of everything that our teachers and the NBSE were providing,” he said, while adding that he would spend most of the days in lockdown studying.

On his success, he said, “I was not very sure if I would make it to top 1 but I was confident that I would make it to the top list.”

Currently, Ohiduz is preparing for NEET and JEE and has not yet chosen the path he wants to follow. “I will probably want to go for computer engineering if I am able to crack JEE though my parents are more inclined towards medical,” said the youngster who also scored a remarkable 100 out of 100 in Computer Science making him the State subject topper.

Elated by their son’s performance, parents Abdul Malik and Najma Begum were beaming with pride as friends and relatives continued to send congratulatory messages. “We are thankful to the Almighty for His grace. We are very much content and glad that his hard work has paid off. It is an awesome moment as besides making our family proud, he made the whole community proud with the commendable performance,” they said.

Ohiduz said that he did not have a particular role model. However, he mentioned that his father, school teachers, principal and school director were some of the motivational and inspirational personalities who were very supportive and encouraged him to work hard.

Leaving a message for his juniors, Ohiduz underscored the importance of maintaining consistency and diligence throughout the academic session.

“As the science stream syllabus is pretty vast, we will definitely need to work hard regularly. We should stay focussed and try to be self motivated instead of waiting for someone to urge us to study,” he said.
