Doyang Landowners slam ex-president’s heady activities

Dimapur, July 13 (MExN): The Landowners Union, DHEP Doyang at its first meeting under a new team of office bearers, held on July 11 undertook several resolutions.

The meeting took serious note of what the union called the unruly action of Wochamo Ngullie, former president of the union, for leading a group of “liquor-influenced and unauthorized youths”. It was charged that Wochamo Ngullie, along with the inebriated youths physically assaulted some of the union’s executive members and took away official documents from the possession of the  Executive Convener inside the meeting Hall on June 28. It was also charged that he had forcibly entered the security area of the CISF and threatened the head of the project to leave Doyang Hydro Electric Project within 7 days.

“This very incident has disturbed the peace and tranquility due to creation of law and order problems in the area and has disturbed the normal atmosphere of the DHEP thereby causing mental harassment to the project staffs, the police and security forces and to the general people which are totally contrary to policy and objectives of the union” according to a release issued by the union’s Vice-President, General Secretary and Joint Secretary.

The union regretted that such unfortunate action was committed by hiring “unauthorized youths on payment of daily wages by the former president for which the union shall bear no responsibility”. The landowners condemned the action stating that it had damaged the good image and earned repute of the union and its members.

“The union decided that the same matter shall be further examined with the firm objective to discourage any such undesirable incidents in future” it stated and appealed to the State Government, district administration and NEEPCO Ltd., for cooperation in checking such activities which would be deterrent to the security and normal functioning of the only major power project of the state.

Also, the Land Owners' Union deliberated on the matter of Land Owners’ Certificates which was issued in loose copies earlier without any serial numbers and without any proper office records. The meeting resolved to renew all certificates and these shall be applicable to all the effected landowners including the land-affected employees of NEEPCO Ltd for all office purposes.

The meeting also resolved that identity cards would be issued to all the executive members and the office bearers of the union. Further, for easier and wider dissemination of information on the union’s activities, it was decided that all publications, resolutions, meeting minutes and union constitution would be duly translated in Sumi and Lotha Dialects for general publicity and circulations to the effected villages.

The union also extended its condolences on the demise of its former executive members Late Elao Ngullie, Changsu Old and Late Nmeri Kithan of Pangti village who passed away. The union prayed for solace to the bereaved families.

Meanwhile, the office bearers of the union have expressed gratitude to the executive members for taking up initiatives to strengthen the union and for reposing their trust and confidence on the new team led by its new president O Mozamo Ngullie. The union further assured the villages dedication and serious commitment for larger development in the areas and for this, called for cooperation from all.
