Kolkata, July 29 (MExN): Officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 50 gold biscuits totally weighing 8.30 kg valued at Rs. 2.57 crore from two persons of Mizoram who were travelling to Kolkata through Silchar-Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express on July 28. The gold bars were smuggled into India from Myanmar through Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram, stated a press release from DRI. The gold biscuits were wrapped in adhesive tapes and concealed in shoes worn by the apprehended persons, it added. The two accused have been arrested under the Customs Act, 1962 and remanded to judicial custody. In this month itself, DRI has seized 20 kg of goldin two separate cases in West Bengal near Siliguri. Last month, DRI seized 32 kg of gold near Siliguri.
