KOHIMA, JUNE 25 (MExN): The District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA), Kohima, held its meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Kohima, on 25th June 2026, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kohima B. Henok Buchem.
S. Supongmeren Jamir, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Chairperson, DISHA Kohima, and former MLA Medokul Sophie attended the meeting.
In his address, Supongmeren Jamir stated that departments should present progress against set targets along with challenges faced in implementation. He said the meeting was intended to review performance and identify bottlenecks requiring intervention at district, state and central levels.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, represented by Deputy Director Dr Gwathonlo Tsela, presented updates on livestock census, mithun farming promotion, livestock insurance, entrepreneurship development programmes and support to farmers. The MP highlighted the importance of accurate livestock data for planning and future funding support.
The Agriculture Department, represented by SDAO Kohima Viketuno, presented details of ongoing schemes and crop development programmes. The department reported that over 4,000 kilograms of millet were harvested during the Millet Festival in Kohima, generating an estimated income of ₹13–14 lakh through sales. Medokul Sophie suggested comparative assessment of agricultural investment and productivity, and noted concerns over declining agricultural activity in some rural areas despite increased government spending.
The Urban Development Department reported progress under various schemes, including PM SVANidhi support for street vendors. Officials informed that 1,115 loan applications had been sanctioned and disbursed through banks. The MP stated the need to balance support for street vendors with urban management and coordination with the Kohima Municipal Council and district administration.
The Labour Department, represented by Assistant Labour Commissioner Neimenuo, presented updates on welfare schemes and registration under labour programmes. Supongmeren Jamir noted the department’s outreach activities. Medokul Sophie suggested maintaining separate data on local and non-local beneficiaries for planning purposes.
The Roads & Bridges Department, represented by Executive Engineer Er Wabang, presented updates on the NESIDS-funded Khonoma–Dzüdza road project. The MP reviewed progress and sought updates on timelines, maintenance work, landslide restoration and related infrastructure works.
The meeting also discussed issues including timely fund release, project implementation challenges, employment opportunities, a single-window system for job advertisements, and strengthening monitoring mechanisms. Supongmeren Jamir directed departments to focus on measurable outcomes and ensure effective implementation of schemes.
Departments of Roads & Bridges, National Highways, Power and Water Resources were assigned to present updates in the next DISHA meeting.
ADC Kohima Ruopfükuotuo Noudi, NCS, delivered the vote of thanks. District officials, village leaders and committee members attended the meeting.
