As part of the Drug-Free India Campaign, the Brahma Kumaris Medical Wing has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE) to carry out activities under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan on March 4, 2023 for a period of three years.
In Kohima, a launching programme will be held at Raj Bhavan Kohima to spread awareness on the NMBA and thereafter a rally will be undertaken by participants from different sections of the society including schools and college students, leaders, NCC cadets among others on November 25.
This announcement was made during a press meet held at Brahma Kumaris Meditation Centre, Kohima today with the attendance of the Secretary of the Medical Wing of Brahma Kumaris, Mt Abu Rajasthan, Dr Banarsilal Sah and Dr Sachin Parab, Joint Secretary and national Coordinator, My India Addiction--Free India.
Speaking at the meet, Dr Parab said that although NMBA mission has been launched in 2020, a MoU was signed with the BK and government of India last year.
The joint Secretary added that the programme has been launched in various states across India with is seeing positive response.
He underscored that Government is aware of Brahma Kumaris and so far the number of awareness done by Brahma Kumaris is among the highest.
Dr. Parab spoke about how Brahma Kumaris practices meditation or Rajyoga meditation which is practiced by all walks of life and all religion and it has been scientifically documented that people who practice this meditation can quit addiction and relapse rate is very low.
In the NMBA awareness programme, he said that one principal focus is on prevention as youth are target of the industry. He cited that, substances like tobacco, drugs etc are targetted to catch them young.
"Our maximum programmes will be in schools and colleges and with associations. We will focus on its harmful effects by placing facts and figures and how we can protect ourselves from harmful substances and what are the alternatives sources of happiness we have," the joint Secretary added.
Speaking of how these awareness programmes incorporate factual science, he said that today we have fantastic science, it teaches us how stress and management are related.
"We will bring out awareness on how addiction begins, the effects of peer pressure, how create positive peer pressure and alternatives sources of healthy dopamine which people can choose and be convinced to stay away from drugs," he further added.
Other initiatives will be to undertake counselling and treatment at right place.
