Drug peddler, buyer caught red-handed in Sovima

Sovima, August 8 (MExN): Two drug peddlers were caught “red handed” by the volunteers of Sovima Youth Organisation (SYO) while they were in the “process of selling” it to two customers on August 8.

The two agents, identified as Keduolhoulie Angami and Beizolie Angami, are permanent residents of Sovima, informed an update issued by the Sovima Village Council (SVC), Secretary, Ruokuosilie Rupreo. The main culprit managed to flee the scene. The customers have been identified as Chuba Phom and Chekhah Kano, and are reportedly presently residents of Medziphema town.

According to the SVC, a Khaini/tobacco container filled with Sunflower drugs and another container filled with items used for inhaling the drugs, a syringe, Rs 500 and two smartphones were recovered from their possession.

Three other addicts of “OSD” were also apprehended from the site. They have been identified as Threiwang Awang Konyak, Wenkheng Jolyn Konyak and Yonem Konyak. “Apparently, one out of the three is recovering addict and used to avail regular doses from Government outlets but bring them and distribute to others illegally in the village. All three are tenants in Sovima,” the SVC stated.

“During recording of their statements, it was found that the main supplier, who was present at the spot, managed to escape during the melee. He is reported to regularly visit his sister, a tenant of Sovima, and sell the drugs to customers. His details have been provided to the police,” the council informed.

The apprehended individuals and seized items were handed over to Chümoukedima Police Station on Monday afternoon. “It is hoped that the main suppliers shall be nabbed very soon and the village rid of drugs peddling in the near future,” the council added.
