•-This is regarding the recent NPSC advertisement for 10 EAC posts which appeared in local dailies on Aug.7th, 2011. I don’t always agree with the stance of NSF on various issues but on this one, I think they are doing the right thing. NSF, please continue to fight for students’ rights and not political issues. I also want to express my disappointment with the response of the Chakhesang Students Union. How can they say that this Special Recruitment Drive will bring the so-called Backward Tribes at par with the rest of the Naga tribes when they have overtaken the “advanced tribes”? Just to give you an illustration in recent times- In 2009, 1 Chakhesang was appointed EAC through BT quota. That year, there was not a single EAC from Angami tribe. In fact, out of the 12 who qualified, there were 3 BTs who qualified through merit and another 3 BTs who got through quota. Last year, 2 EACs from Chakhesang tribe qualified through merit and another 2 from Phom and Konyak tribes who got through quota. And let’s not start on the Dy.SP posts. So where is the need to give any further special assistance to the Chakhesang tribe especially when they are doing better than the advanced tribes? At the same time, I am proud of the Rengma Students Union’s response. Though they are very poorly represented in the Govt. set-up and have every right to demand for reservation, they have shown that they are not ready to sell their soul for the sake of one Govt. post.
