Dimapur
In this fast changing world in diverse fronts where the road is the backbone of civilization & developments, the road congestions and vehicular jams in the State Capital Kohima and Cosmopolitan Commercial Hub, Dimapur ruins the economic growth of the state. The government and public vehicles moving from the Minister Hill Police Point to GHS police point takes more than two hours at Kohima. Whereas, the vehicle movement from Airport Junction/Padumpukhuri to Dhobinalah Police Point/Lions Club, Dimapur takes around three hours due to road congestion and heavy jams of vehicle everyday which in lieu would have taken hardly ten to fifteen minutes respectively.
Whereas, considering the heavy times consumption in to and fro travels on the aforesaid streets, it may really amount to heavy economy ruins particularly for office goers who hardly get time to attend office for public duties/service except the time available to sign Attendance Register in their respective Offices with reliable good reason “Late on account of Vehicle Jams on the road”.
Similar reason for Students’ Community too to have late arrival in their respective school’/colleges’ classes. The public and the business communities too badly suffers under the same situation. Accordingly, the considerable wasted time is considered as wasted money as the eminent economists says “Time is Money”.
There were hardly too few vehicles seen (MST) in the street of Dimapur and Kohima around 1960.however, within the last decades of years, lakhs of vehicles in these streets has crop up to face the brunt of present scenario as most crucial creating a critical problem and a baneful situation. The growth of vehicle by leap and bounds is inevitable that may amount double the present number of vehicles within around a decade of years that doubling the time consumption than today.
Whereas, the Banks’ competitions in rendering advance Car/Vehicle loans to public individuals and Government servants is attracting many buyers irrespective of poor and rich. The poorer section of people staying in rented houses prefers to buy vehicle than to construct a house to live/stay which continue the growth of vehicle by leap and bounds that may spare no space/security for pedestrians. In this context, if the concerned Government’s Department do not envisage the inevitable consequences of having increased numerous vehicles, where the vehicle belonging to the poorer section of people staying in rented houses without attached garage/car parking area that compels them to p[ark their vehicles in the streets, shall be an additional burden to clear up the resultant vehicular jams of the running vehicles in the streets that may create an unavoidable time wasting till the spot is forced free clan open for the stucked up running vehicle to pass through.
Whereas, we may regretfully admit that these towns were established and thus built up the existing infrastructure without plan to realize our mistake when it is late today. Howbeit, it may be too late to visualize today’s problems after an another decade of years to hitch a plan for improvement of the situation to incorporate modern technology than today to take up a construction of FLY-OVER BRIDGES or UNDERGROUND ROADS or any other device method application by consulting qualified technological experts in town planning considering the highest urbanization growth of Nagaland with 68% in 2001 and 69% in 2011 against National level at 22% in 2001 and 21% in 2011 in India (India Censuses). This growth is the resultant migration from rural to urban which may overtakes the rural population sooner.
Notwithstanding of the sole TIME consciousness alone, we, in this technological world arena, where people enjoy a global village surrounded by modern amenities and facilities, the State lacks much behind in power supply which is the sole life of industrial growth for the state economical growth. No doubt, the State do not have even a single viable industry project of any stream that need constant supply of enough power. As a matter of fact, the State, above all developmental fronts, needs sufficient power supply, yet, we don’t have eve domestic power supply except meagre domestic alternate hourly supply of power that alone could not dream of the economic growth.
Whereas, considering all these threats, but critically vital despite extremely critical, the politicians, the bureaucrats and the technocrats would have put their heads together and could have hitch a realistic solution to improve present situation of road congestion and vehicular jams for there may not have such road congestions and vehicular jams particular in NH-39 from 2nd Mile to Kohima and most importantly, Power Supplies for an economic justice is an inseparable part of political agenda where freedom and peace cannot exists if it does not mean a better deal and opportunity for the poor and the deprived people of tour state.
