The 21st general session-cum-fresher’s day of Kohima Tsüswüzu Students’ Union (KTSU) was held on September 2 at APO Hall, Kohima under the theme ‘Education: A Collective Responsibility.’
Speaking on the occasion as the guest speaker, Chisayi, Assistant Conservator Forest (ACF), Department of Forest, Nagaland called upon the students to maintain discipline, patience and determination to excel in life.
Wishing all the freshers to achieve greater heights in the coming days, he also advised them to have a clear goal. Meanwhile, Chisayi urged the parents to encourage their children in the areas they are doing well and at the same time avoid the habit of undermining their children.
Stating that failure is the stepping stone of success, he asked the students to stand firm and never give up till the target is achieved.
KTSU president Nezelu Nyekha in her presidential address said, “We are living in a competitive world where academic education alone does not guarantee a successful life.” A student's career, she stated, is a responsibility of the society – to guide, encourage, and help them find their purpose in life. “Neither can a student triumph academically through brains and a good school alone. A student's academic performance also depends a lot on family support, friendly environment, and supportive teachers,” she added.
She said in short span of 2-3 generations, education has created a mark in every single household. “It calls for a responsibility the student community has, for a progressive society – not just in academic knowledge, but also in every field, as the torch bearers of the society,” she maintained. “Whatever we do, wherever we go, may we always remember our roots, put our village first, support, uplift each other, because our identity begins from here.”
Müleyi Khesoh, Village Council Chairman Tsüswüzu also exhorted the gathering, while Zaseto Sasü, chaplain, Mt. Sinai Higher Secondary School Kohima pronounced act of blessing after the introduction of freshers. Kuvoto Nyekha spoke on behalf of freshers.
Hevelü Swuro shared ‘Dream of a future voter’, while Lütsühlü Swuro and Chesezu Women Society Kohima presented special numbers. The inaugural function was chaired by Kükhruseyi Ringa and vote of thanks was proposed by Vevoto Ringa.
KTSU currently has 271 members. Out of the 271, 70 are from pre-primary to Class V, 56 from Class VI to Class X, 106 college students, and 40 graduate and above, according to KTSU annual statistics report 2017.
