Dimapur, October 17 (MExN): Government engineers protest against the amalgamation of the civil wing of the Power department with the Nagaland Public Works Department (PWD). The engineers have resolved to continue to oppose the amalgamation.
A general meeting of the Association of Engineers Nagaland PWD was held October 6 where it was decided that the amalgamation would not be accepted. The association held strong view that the amalgamation of civil wings of the developmental departments has already been affected.
The same as the cadre management of the officers under the control of the Works & Housing department, the association stated in a copy of the meeting minutes received here. Any new move for expansion of the engineering wing should be through the W & H department, the association pointed out. Further the idea of a separate department in the Urban Development department is against the “amalgamation notification.”
The association, therefore, resolved to oppose the move of the government for separation of the wing and endorsed a course of action to be taken up.
In another point, the association appreciated the taking-over of National Highway 155 (Jessami to Mokokchung) from the Border Roads Organization (BRO). Taking into consideration the apprehension of the public, the engineers resolved to “be more sincere in carrying out the works not only of the national highway but of all the other works of the department.” Related to this, the engineers stated that the post of a chief engineer of highway is required, considering that the highway is more than 600 kilometers. It was decided that the government be moved for the same.
The association also resolved to submit a proposal to set up a planning and monitoring/research development cell in the wings of the department. This is to meet capacity-building and technical known-how needs of the department, the association opined. A three-member committee for selection of new office bearers of the association was also instated.
