Kohima, September 5 (MExN): A one-day faculty development and administrative training program for teaching and non- teaching staff was organised by IQAC, Baptist College, Kohima in collaboration with Administrative Training Institute (ATI) Government of Nagaland on August 31 last.

The Resource persons for the event were Dr. Hovithal Sothu, Project Director, Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA) and Andreas Lotha, Under Secretary, Department of Economics & Statistics.

The inaugural program was chaired by L. Thsidelong Rudy, HoD, Department of Political Science, Baptist College, Kohima.

In the welcome address, Dr. Kewepfuzu Lohe spoke about knowledge and its power as it controls human mind and economy.

He remarked that teachers need to know what is morally right and wrong and the importance of ethics in workplace.

Dr Sentinaro, IQAC Coordinator pointed out that ‘Work Ethics’ in the context of fast growing academic circle is crucial, highlighting the importance towards developing understanding in work place and professional enhancement towards fostering  a positive work culture.

In the 1st session for the teaching staff  on “Work Ethics -1”, Dr. Hovithal Sothu spoke on the ‘Basics of work ethics,’ specifying three important components of Work Ethics as teachers – maintaining integrity; devotion to duty; and avoiding unbecoming acts. Further breaking down integrity to ‘doing the right thing even if nobody is watching’ in every aspect of life.

In the second session - Work Ethics II , Dr Sothu spoke on the traits of Practical Skills of Work Ethics. The chief trait being attendance and punctuality, urging that escapism should not be practiced. He also added that good personality trait like honesty, loyalty is of key importance as educators. The other traits he focused on were reliability, trustworthiness, team work, appearance, attitude, productivity, organisational skills, ego, communication, cooperation, respect.

Dr Sothu encouraged  being polite and respectful, to move towards positivity avoiding the unbecoming acts.

For  the non teaching staff, on the topic "Basic Office Procedure : Filing System, Noting and Drafting ", Andreas Lotha spoke on  how to file official documents and maintain index registers.

The training also included drafting of official letters, office memorandum, corrigendum, addendum etc.

The session ended with vote of thanks by Narola Chuba, Vice- Principal, Baptist College.
