Faculty Development Programme was held at Dimapur Mission Higher Secondary School on March 8.

Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): A one-day Faculty Development Programme was held at Dimapur Mission Higher Secondary School (DMHSS) on March 8 on the theme “Phonetics and Communication Skills”. The programme was initiated under the guidance of the School Governing Board, DMHSS. The resource person for the programme was Dr Alemmenla Walling, Assistant Professor, Department of English, St Joseph University, Chümoukedima.

In the first session, Dr Alemmenla spoke on the topic ‘Basics in Phonetics.’ She stressed on the meaning of Phonetics, role of phonetics in Language Teaching, who can be a phonetic trainer and the model of teaching pronunciation.

In the second session, the resource person spoke on effective communication on the theme, ‘Four Language Skills for Effective Communication.’ She elaborated on the definition, basic skills i.e Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing (LSRW) and the four aspects of speaking skills. For effective communication, she focused on the four aspects of communication skills which are grammar, fluency, vocabulary and pronunciation. 

The programme was chaired by Onenjungla, PGT (English) and invocation pronounced by Mrs. Merensola, Chaplain and Counsellor. A welcome note was addressed by Alemtushi Imchen, Principal DMHSS. The vote of thanks was pronounced by Mary, Assistant Teacher and the programme concluded with benediction by Lolenmongla, Assistant Teacher, DMHSS.
