Fast Track Court in Manipur soon to tackle drug menace

Newmai News Network Imphal | January 27   Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has said that a Fast Track Court will be established soon to tackle the drug menace and punish the drug smugglers and those who are associated with such business in the State. The Fast track Court will replace the present NDPS Court to hear all the cases concerning drug cases. He said this at the 4th Distribution of Educational Financial Assistance for the Children of Widow’s of Langthabal Constituency held at Lilong Chajing Mairenkhong Community Hall today. The function was organised by the Langthabal Kendra Widow’s Welfare Association.   The Chief Minister then said that a Committee has been formed with Principal Secretary (Home) as Chairman, an ADG as Vice-Chairman to tackle the issue of drug menace in the State. An official order would be issued today, he added. He mentioned the Committee will not only look into the rapidly growing menace of drugs among young adults but also check the peddling and smuggling of drugs in the State.   The CM said a WatsApp group has been formed to exchange information and cases related to drug menace. Expressing serious concern over widespread poppy and cannabis plantation at different parts of the State, the CM asked the DCs, SPs and SDOs concerned to destroy all these plants within the month of March 2018.   On the occasion, the dignitaries handed over educational financial assistance to some of the beneficiaries. Altogether a total of 495 children were selected for the Educational financial assistance.
