The finale of the 1st edition of The Morung Debate 2019 is scheduled to be held Saturday, September 7 at Tourist Lodge Conference Hall, Dimapur.
Altogether 16 teams in the age group of 18 – 25 from across the state took part in the event.
The series of matches included preliminary rounds, quarterfinals and semifinals, which began on August 16.
The purpose of the debate, an initiative of The Morung Express, is to create a platform for healthy dialogue and competition where relevant topics on socio-economic, cultural, political and religious issues are deliberated.
It is aimed at encouraging young people to engage in a competitive and healthy dialogue where they share opinions on issues concerning the Naga society and the world at large that may impact the social discourse.
Through this competition, The Morung Express seeks to contribute in enabling a contemplative consciousness, developing young leadership and exploring new forms of praxis in engaging with the various challenges of the 21st century.
The finale will witness teams – Astral and Prove Us Wrong debate on the topic – The Hornbill Festival should be discontinued.
Monetary prizes include: Rs 50,000 for the winning team, Rs 30,000 for the runners-up, Rs 10,000 each for the two semi-finalists, Rs 5000 for best speaker (two in number), Rs 5000 for most promising team.
There will be a running trophy for the winning team and individual certificates will be awarded to all participants.
