The 27 Mokokchung Town Assembly Constituency (AC) Naga People’s Front (NPF) Youth Wing organised youth festival under the motto “Animus Fortius” and theme “One Goal One Voice” at Mujabi Ground, Salangtem Ward, Mokokchung, on September 17.
Sponsored by Minister for Rural Development and SIRD, Metsübo Jamir, the festival brought together the five NPF party units under the constituency - Aongza, Kumlong, Kichutip, Mongsenbai and Salangtem.
The festival featured a Futsal Championship in Party Workers and Professional categories, besides an entertainment programme featuring local bands and solo artistes.
In the Party Workers Category, Kichutip NPF Unit emerged champion and received Rs 20,000, while Mongsenbai NPF Unit finished runners-up with Rs 10,000. Meyikaba of Kumlong NPF Unit was adjudged Best Goalkeeper and Moamongba of Mongsenbai NPF Unit was named Player of the Tournament. Both received Rs 2,000 each.
In the Professional Category, Kumlong NPF Unit lifted the champion trophy and received Rs 20,000, while Mongsenbai NPF Unit finished runners-up with Rs 10,000. Imliakum of Aongza NPF Unit was adjudged Best Goalkeeper and Yaho of Kumlong NPF Unit was declared Player of the Tournament, with both receiving Rs 2,000 each.
The prizes were distributed by Metsübo Jamir, who attended the concluding session as Guest of Honour.
Metsübo stresses unity, grassroots work
Addressing the gathering, Metsübo appreciated the youth for organising the festival and said such initiatives could contribute to greater unity among the five wards under the constituency.
Referring to the NPF political enrolment drive that commenced on September 16, he called upon party workers and youth members to carry out the process properly and strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level ahead of the 2028 General Election.
He encouraged the youth to engage with people in adjoining wards and colonies and work collectively for the betterment of their communities. He also stressed that political activities should not be confined to election periods, saying the purpose of bringing people together should ultimately be to serve the people.
Metsübo further highlighted the role of sports and social activities in bringing people together and providing youth with opportunities to gain experience and develop a sense of responsibility.
According to the organisers, the festival marked the seventh consecutive year of the youth wing’s annual programme sponsored by its elected MLA. Previous editions featured football tournaments, while this year’s programme was expanded to include futsal and entertainment.
