Food processing event held in Kohima

Kohima, January 25 (MExN): North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) Limited in association with North Eastern Council (NEC) organised ‘Awareness Program on Food Processing’ and ‘Food Processing Investors’ Meet’ at de Oriental Grand Hotel, Kohima on January 25.  

The event emphasised on the local produce and how to market them outside the state. A lot was deliberated on the potential of food processing sector in Nagaland, stated a press release from NERAMAC.  

R. Elithung Lotha, Director, Department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland, who was the chief guest at the Food Processing Investors’ Meet, said, “Women should take the lead in food processing industry as they are more committed and persistent. Moreover, Nagaland is blessed with natural resources and we should nurture, protect and use its resources to the optimum.”  

Guest of honour, Khrielie Peseyie, Deputy Director of Food Processing, Directorate of Industries & Commerce, Government of Nagaland encouraged young entrepreneurs. “If your products are good enough they will reach other parts of the country and the world,” he told them. He also urged them to come forward and avail various government schemes, one of them being Sampada.  

Other speakers present at the event were Abokali Jimomi from Organic Nagaland and Gunajit Brahma from Jeev Anksh Eco Products (P) Ltd., Assam.  

In his presentation, Gunajit Brahma maintained, “One does not need a huge budget to market oneself. In this digital age, digital marketing is one of the best ways to reach a wider audience. One should focus on value addition to be successful as competing in low margin high volume is tough.”  

The event witnessed a huge participation by people of Nagaland in the food processing sector.  

‘Nagaland still in primary school stage in food processing unit’

Nagaland still stands in the primary school stage as far as food processing industry is concerned, maintained Abokali Jimomi of Organic Nagaland today.  

She substantiated her argument citing improper infrastructure, marketability and management system as some causing factors.  

In this, she called for positive support from North Eastern Council (NEC) and North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) Limited in areas such as improving infrastructure, adequate cold chain etc.  

Abokali called upon the entrepreneurs to tie up with the concerned agencies to face the challenges ahead for their livelihood and boosting the state’s economy.   She also told the entrepreneurs that a time has come to focus on quality product to compete with the global market.
