Forest Conservation Act 2023 a threat for Nagaland: NPCC

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 12 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has sounded caution that the amendment of Forest Conservation Act 2023 which was passed in both the house of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha last week is a threat for Nagaland State.

In a press statement, NPCC president S Supongmeren Jamir mentioned that as per the Nagaland Community conserved Area Forum (NCCAF), the state have 407 Community conserved areas of world top biodiversity hotspots. In this regard, the Nagaland has the special provision and safeguards as mentioned.

Even though the state may have all the provisions and safeguard, unless the Nagaland Legislative Assembly adopt a “Resolution not to be implement the amended Forest Conservation Act 2023” in Nagaland, it will be against all the laydown provisions acts and laws of the state, the NPCC pointed out.

It therefore appealed to Nagaland Chief Minister and Speaker (NLA) of Nagaland to adopt the above resolution in the larger interest and safeguard of the state of Nagaland.
